Need of a recoil lug for a 22RF?

Necessary? No. Highly desired? Yes.

Since you are building and hopefully building correctly, you will be pillaring and bedding. The lug will help.

My friend had an old 721/722 ( witch ever is the short action) Remington he bought at the gun show in 222. Who ever built it used no recoil lug, and it was a very accurate rifle. I don't know it was for the snicker factor or not but the builder drove a horseshoe nail into the stock behind the tang to act as a recoil lug of sorts.

I am working on my first custom set up and was wondering if it is necessary to install a recoil lug?

Probably will be the best way is to install one. I have an extra in my gun, PM for details.

I picked up a CMP 40x and was planning on removing the recoil lug too. But i was planning on adding two more action screws to the front portion to match my Quadlite. So then I could use the same stock for either action.
