Need load help for a 30-378 Weatherby

I could use some help with some proven recipes for the 30-378. I have been tasked with getting a factory accumark up and shooting for a once in lifetime elk hunt for my friends father in law. They had been shooting 165 noslers in it but not happy with the results. I loaded up some Sierra 180 spitzer boat tails with Retumbo but I think there is a scope/mount issue that needs to be fixed in the meantime, so while I'm waiting on parts, I thought I'd ask to see if anyone has a favorite load since I've never messed with these monsters.

Before my father and I rebarreled both of our Accumarks from 30/378 to 338/378 H-50BMG was THE powder. Now though, there are new alternatives that I prefer more. Both of the 338/378 barrels have shot very well with RL25. I would definitely start there. Retumbo has always been touchy. Sometimes it'll be fine, then the next thing you know you're over pressure. My 8mm/378 Wby likes H-1000. So short version, RL-25, Retumbo, H-1000 in that order. I have not tried the new RL-33 but it might be worth a shot.

I recently worked on developing a load for a friend's 30-378 Wby. Tried several powders with 180 grain Accubonds and wasn't getting the accuracy I wanted. I looked on the Weatherby forum for some laod help and was steered toward H-1000 and Berger 210's. After a little basic load development, friend's "Boomer" starter shooting almost like a target rifle.....

Berger 210 g Hunting VLD's
H-1000 in the 100 graing range
Federal 215M primers
Norma brass, annealed, weight dorted with case necks turned to 15 thousands

That did the trick on his rifle.

Try a heavy Berger starting at 185 VLD and heavier for the bullet. Just killed a moose in Colorado with the 168 VLD out of a 7 Mag, Bergers work. Don't be afraid to try different primers, I started with F215M's and the accuracy was not there the 250's worked very well with H1000. Good Luck

My go to elk load is the berger 210 vld with H1000 (mid 90's), 215m primers, jumped .020 , 3150 FPS

I tried 50bmg, RL 25, IMR 7828, and H1000 was the best in my rifle.

Well, I think I got the scope problems figured out, put a different one on there and it is holding better groups now but still not stellar by any means. I am working with limited funding on this project as the guys who are going to be using this rifle don't want to spend any money on it... I don't have anything powder wise that anyone recommended other than H-1000 and that didn't work out at all. I was waiting for a calm day to shoot after the scope malfunction and shot 3 that were loaded with 110.5 of Retumbo, CCI 250 and 180 Sierra spitzer bt. It had showed promise before but this morning it shot a .26". I had 5 loaded up with 98 grains of H-1000 and the 180 sierra (middle charge out of their book) and the first one didn't ignite and the rest were all hang fires. I have never experienced this before with anything but it was a definite click.... boom. I loaded up some more of the Retumbo load and shot it a little more with more like 2" groups at 100yd then I took 3 shots at 500yd and it made a nice 4.5" group on the steel plate. I guess it's good enough for me if they can shoot it. Thanks for the responses even though I didn't get to try them out.

I use 100gr H-1000 with Speer 200gr Hotcore. Haven't tried Retumbo, yet. Good Luck.
