need info for forming 6.5 creedmoor brass

I was told that I can make 6.5 Creedmoor brass from 243 winchester brass. Has anyone formed there own? What dies would be needed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kevin

I haven't tried 243 brass, but I have used 308 brass and it worked fine. I sized it without using the expander ball (don't use it anyway) and trimmed then sized it one final time. I did not anneal before I formed the brass. I usually anneal after fireforming. I sized down both Hornady Match and some Remington URBR brass. The necks were not any thicker than my Hornady Creedmoor brass after I reformed the brass. I did it more as an exercise than any real need.

if you go to 65creedmoor.com i beleive he goes be the name trent he has done it and has a step by step on how he did it . there are also other topics on it there. for me i use 308 lapua and lc match then turn the necks .

I just reformed 500 pcs of RP 243Win brass for my 6.5 Creed. I used the first 2 form dies in my 22BR form set. Obviously, I had to use some care when setting up the dies. The 22BR is far shorter.

I tried a few pieces of Win, but it would buckle the majority of time unless I annealed before forming. The RP didn't require annealing beforehand, but I did anneal it as a final step.

The finished brass is shooting just as well as my Hornady stuff. Keep in my that I'm using a custom varmint rifle, not a full tilt bench rig.

Case capacity may be slightly less than factory Hornady brass, I haven't measured it, but I gained a few FPS with my primary load.

Let's face it. Shortages are only going to get worse as we move forward. The ability to form the brass we need from various cases is cheap insurance. The old ways, although not always practical, still have some merit. I plan on buying more form sets and learning how to use them properly.
