Need Help With Stoney Point OAL Guage

I need help with a Stoney Point OAL Guage. I need to prepare a 22BR hull and a 20 Vartarg Hull to fit the threaded end of the guage. What size bit and tap do I need?

Thanks in advance.

hello jebsr, the tap that you need is a 5/16-36. i'm not sure about the tap drill but it's about .270-.275. i made one for .17 fireball and it is verry easy to swell the case so that it won't go into the chamber. i solved this problem by drilling the case in steps makeing small cuts to a little over sized so the tap is only cutting about half of the thread depth. bsck up the tap often to cut off the chips and use lots of cutting oil. should work fine. MSC has this tap in stock.LOL_____ treeman

You might already know, but just in case:

You can send two fired cases to Hornady and they will make you the modified case.....turn around is fairly quick and it was only $11 the last time I sent in cases for my ackley chambers.

If you need it, I think I still have the address somewhere.

Look at the upper case in my pic. By using a resized case with a slit neck you can make your own seating depth tool that is basically free and far more repeatable than the Hornady tool. If you aren't measuring how far you are bumping your shoulders back then it is probably best to just neck size the case before you slit the neck.

Thanks for all of the help, I think I can take it from here. It is really great to have a forum like this to go to for help.
