Need help on new scope purchase

You all have been a great help in the past, so here's my next question...I am going to buy in the next couple days.New build, Aero Precision 6.5 Creedmoor build...seems to be super accurate, that's the good news....but I need a scope for it. With the funds hovering around $650 MAX, and old eyes (need magnification) I am looking at 2 scopes I have no clue about...1st, Bushnell Forge 4.5-27 and 2nd, Meopta Optima 4.5-27. Both will be second focal plane...mostly coyote hunting, 100-800 yds solid tripod mounted...any experience or info on either scope? I can actually get the Meopta for $100 less, but won't scrimp a $100 if the Bushnell is better....Thanks for any help...rsbhunter

Honestly, you will get what you pay for. A low magnification scope with great glass is way better than a crap scope with high magnification. Plus a cheap scope, your tracking will not be accurate as well. I’d say you need to spend every bit of 650 on a used vortex pst gen ii 5-25x, or something like that. At least if you buy a good scope used, this one will come with a lifetime haggle free warrenty. I’m sure others will chime in on other decent scopes as well. In that price range, I’m sure you can pick up a decent leupold as well

I agree with the good/great scope vs cheap.....I have a couple Sightron SIII, a good Leupold, and a couple Ziess....but I just never became thrilled by the Vortex, unless it was the razor series...and that's out for this build....not having either of the scopes available to look through, I'm going in on others experience , if anybody has tried them....by the way, not hating Vortex, just looking at options....rsbhunter

Check out the Sightron STAC 4-20x50 scooes. Duplex, moa and I think they have a new reticle out. The glass is outstanding for the money. I'd guess 400-450.00 range. Tough to beat. Yes new reticle and scope. It's the 4-20 STAC milhash IR. Also FFP. Selling for 699.99. Pricing will be better once they start showing up. Still can't get any in thru my wholesaler. I will be buying one when they do show up.

The S-Tac is one of the ones I had in that group, I had read only a couple bad reviews on the S-Tac, about the glass, lack of windage tracking, and those scared me....The SIII's I have are AWESOME, and if funds allowed, I would get one in 6-24...But.....these other two intrigue me...the Bushnell is the underdog just because for years they were considered 3rd tier....The Meopta was always an obscure scope, great products, but not well advertised in the U.S. among hunters.....So, I will keep researching....with all 3 within $150.00 of each other (on sale) , it might end up a coin toss ....how is the glass and especially the turrets and tracking on the S-TAC? Again, thanks for any and all replies...rsbhunter

Couple different scope models that may fit your criteria. They are in your price range and the 2 I tested for a friend that’s an athlon dealer worked well. I was extremely impressed with their tracking ability.

One more Vote for Sightron . I have a few even High End on F/Class Rifles.

Optical Planet has good prices and a couple days ago 12% deals .

Good Luck.

I have two Bushnell Forge 4.5x27 and so far they have been great. To my eyes the glass seems on par with Sightron SIII, my daughter actually asked if I would move one onto her F-class rig and take the SIII off because she prefered the Forge. They track well and havent had any issues. Ive had them for about a year. One is on an F-class rifle the other on a specialty pistol

I just sold a Bushnell Elite Tactical 3.5-21X50 34mm tube for $650 with TPS rings that would’ve been a great choice on that setup.

Ok, pulled the trigger on the Meopta Optika 4.5-27x50 with the Z Plus illuminated in second focal plane. D'vor has them for $550.00. If I get it and it's not as good as I'm hoping, I will just return, get a store credit, then buy a Sightron SIII 8-32....was really hoping that someone would have received one and reviewed it. If and when I get it, if not already reviewed 1000 times, I'll post my thoughts on it....Thanks for all the advice...Sawcarver, was really leaning toward the Bushnell Forge, but the 50 moa elev. kept me from picking it...but thanks for the comparison to the Sightron......rsbhunter

I haven't yet used a Meopta scope but if the quality is 2/3 as good as their spotters I think you will be happy. I'm pretty sure you will be happy with a Sightron also.

Did you mean Optika?

Well, at least being made in the C.R. , I have a good chance at the quality being decent...if it isn't what I thought, I might have to trade up....but time will tell...rsbhunter

Having visited the factory in Czech Rep. I Like what I saw as far as quality goes. I'm waiting on the MOA recticle to finally come out then I'll make the purchase.

When it's said that lance will get you a great price, we mean a GREAT price. He barely marks up over his cost and it is way way way less than advertised pricing anywhere. Can't recommend him enough!

I agree. Athlon markets some very good glass. I currently have an Athlon Cronus on my 6.5 long range build and am contemplating an Athlon Helos on an in-the-works 224 build. The Athlon Argos BTR 10-40 X 50 fits your desires. Plenty of magnification and a 2nd FP reticle ideal for hunting.
