Need help identifying this action

I'm new to the forum and I have a question for people more qualified to answer it than I am...So thanks in advance...I'll post a picture of the bolt and bottom metal...It is a 22-250 with heavy ER Shaw barrel...I shoots pretty well but I hate the trigger...But I can't replace it until I know what the heck it is...Any help would be greatly appreciated..

How about a good pic of the top and sides of the action, is there any writing at all on it?
Wayne.

It's a Mossberg M800, a budget sporter introduced in 1966 and selling at just under $100 according to Frank de Haas ('Bolt Action Rifles 4th ed'). It was originally sold only in .243 and .308 Win calibres with a 22" barrel. A heavy 24" barrel 'M800 Varmint-Target' model was introduced in 1968 with a fuller stock and offered in .22-250 Rem and .243 Win. .22-250 was then added to the basic model's cartridges.

It was replaced quite quickly by the M810 and RM7 that used developed versions of the 800 action and they didn't stay in production very long either according to de Haas. He also says that he only ever saw or handled one example of the trio in a lifetime of examining, collecting, building and repairing rifles covering a large part of his corner of the USA, so it looks like they were pretty rare even when in production, never mind 40 odd years on.

It obviously shoots OK from the group pic you posted!

I believe its a Mossberg 800 CVT, I have one in 22-250, made in the 60s
Your correct trigger is terrible

Well fellas...I'm glad I came to this forum...I was about to pull my hair out...Next question...What can I do with that crappy trigger...I'd like to throw it away...Way too much creep...

I had one in 243 with almost a straight taper barrel and as accurate as any sako or the like.I sold it last year and am kicking myself in the ass ever since. They made sporters and varmint guns. They were of decent quality.

These are awesome rifles and I have owned and seen many different versions.....made from 66-82 in the model 800(short action, 22-250, 350 rem, 243, 308_ and as a model 810 long action in 30-06, 270, 7 mag and 338 mag....nothing you can do about the trigger except find a VERY good gunsmith to work it,,,deal with it or sell it...My current 243 I have been shooting for several years and has outstanding accuracy with its 6-lug bolt....they are very limited on upgrades to custom only....The rm7 was a completely different animal and design and the 1500 was a Howa with Mossberg stamped on it....I would buy all these rifles I could if I had the money...and parts are available through Numrich and Havlin sales....

as soon as I saw it I knew what it was. I am trying to sell a pretty rare 800 bm (243 mannlicher stock)with the spoon bolt handle right now. the trigger is crappy but its easy to stone down to a pretty good pull.
i'd also like to point out that those actions are very smooth for what they are.
