NEED HELP from 6x47 Lapua shooters (RANGE REPORT)

Well, after taking the advice to just shoot the reloads, here are the results.

I was shooting with LedSled to eliminate any movement during load development. SAC advised me to use anywhere between 39.6 and 40.1 H4350 with berger 105. It seems like my rifle likes 39.5 the best. The more powder charge cartridge had, the more groups were opening up. Even with 40.1 I had no pressure signs.

Should I continue with more powder, till I start seeing pressure signs or just leave it 39.5.

I would take the 39.5 charge and start using various primers. Your E.S.'s are almost 20f.p.s. spread. I would try first: Rem 7.5BR.s, then CCI BR-4's, IF you can get your hands on some, give the Win SR's a try, then Fed 205GM.s My guess, one will shorten that e.s. gap. Now if it holds the groups true, you will have your load!

Step one, take that leadsled to the nearest landfill and leave it there.

Try this load development method, it should make it easy to find a good load for your rifle.

I didn't max out with mine until over 41 grains so I would try some with higher charges as well. I also had the best luck with CCI 450 primers and Berger 105 VLD's seated .020 into the lands.

+2. The best way to eliminate any movement is to invest in a good adjustable front rest and quality front and rear sandbags and practice. Caldwell products are lacking. What did you use to monitor conditions? With the poor front bag supplied on the lead sled, the rifle most likely had a tendency to roll.

DONE!

Never using that POS again. I have a LRA bipod and TAB rear bag. Will only be using that now. The groups were actually better without the led sled.

Should I play around with seating depth? Currently its at 15 thousands off the lands, measuring with comparator. This will be my competition gun, so I want it to be very accurate.

Thanks!

I am using Kestrel with Horus built in. Its the best money spent on a shooting accessory. Its dead on up to 1000 yards that I shot in a class. Have not shot past 1000 yet.

What front rest do you recommend? I also have the Caldwell BR rest with upgraded bags, and not a big fan of it. For the rear support I have TAB and Triad bean bags. They work pretty well. I purchased http://www.midwayusa.com/product/433030/protektor-rabbit-ear-rear-shooting-rest-bag-with-heavy-bottom-leather-tan-filled?cm_vc=ProductFinding and I don't like it at all. Its so hard the the stock does not go inside of the bag. I shoot the best with bipod and TAB bag as of now.

Thanks.

^^^^^ For load development, for the results to mean anything, the wind should be monitored at several points between you and the target. For the money and quality it would be hard to beat the Bald Eagle rest as offered by Bullets.com. I would get the standard non-windage top, standard tripod legs (more stable than the slingshot model), Cast iron vs. aluminum is up to you (I have both and the aluminum is much easier to handle .....with no loss in holding POA). I would use Protektor bags, front and rear.

Drain some of that too hard out the thing. Pretty sure you’ll find that the base was filled through a ‘spout’ separate from the rabbit ears. I bought my Protektor bags unfilled, most came from Sinclair. Playground sand works fine.

Check out Sinclair’s “Heavy Varmint” shooting rest base with whichever of their tops strikes your fancy, windage adjustable or not, or you could spend a bunch more and get their Competition rest.

I got 2 6X47 Lapuas.

One currently has a tight bore so it gets:
105 VLD 10 jam with 38.7 gr H4350 using CCI BR primers. at about 3120 fps avg.

The other gets. 105 VLD 10 jam with 39 gr of H4350 using CCI 450 magnum primers at about 3105 fps avg.

Both loads get a whole bunch of "DUP"s on the chronograph when I remember to throw the chronograph in the truck.

Accuracy = .5 -.75 at 300. I'm happy with under 1.00 so right now - I'm happy. LOL

Keep an eye out too for Cowan rests, I bought a used one for $275 off here recently, probably the best rest for dollar that you can get.

May want check the classifieds over at benchrest.com also from time to time, there and Bob White's used benchrest/varmint equipment list.

+1 on the Cowan rest, I have seen the fetch up too $450 but IMHO still worth it for an best dollar for dollar solid rest.
