??? need filler for stock barrel channel

I have a McMillan stock that had the barrel channel cut for a heavy barrel. Approx .950 at muzzle. I want to salvage the stock and bed a barreled action with a slimmer barrel profile.

As it is there is a huge gap around the slimmer barrel that I would like to close up somewhat

I don't have a problem with about 1/16 clearance per side but the current gap is way larger.

I don't want to fill barrel channel with 3# of AcraGlas. Is there a lighter weight filler,foam?) that I can put in and skim bed over the top to narrow the barrel channel?

I sure would appreciate any ideas, I'm anxious to get this bedded and start shooting.

I too am looking for a filler for stocks. Not only for barrel channels but for mag cutouts and forearm filling. Any body out there know of some material that doesn't weigh as much as the bedding compounds? Is there a way to mix up the fillers that the manufacturers use at home?

I had a similar issue...
I solved it with Acraglass and micro-balloons. They are microscopic hollow glass beads. Much lighter than resin alone and still strong and workable.

I have used bondo in the past and it seems to work real well.
It weighs a lot less than any of the bedding compounds.
