Need advice on a Grizzly lathe

Grimstod

Machinist, Designer, and Shooter.
So I am on a toss up between the G4003 and the G4003G. The gunsmith version looks like a better lathe but I can't tell if there is a collet closer available for it. Having a collet closer is essential to me when I do production runs of large quantities like 400+ parts. But I also want to have a good lathe for gunsmithing.

This is the part I need. Will it work on a G4003G?

Would the built-in spider create an issue with the closer seating properly? Perhaps that is why it isn't offered for the G4003G.

That was my first thought. It could be removed though that would take some set up time. One thing i noticed is that the gunsmith version has a diferent chuck. Its a D1-5 where the non gunsmith version is a D1-4 chuck.

I've got the 12-36 with collet closer , yes it's available . If you look at the 12-24 ,I think , it's listed , as its the same as the 12-36 save for bed length . I would also recomend the set for contouring . I've got a few lathes and this is a good lathe for gun work , I don't think you'd be happy with either for production , I prefer lathe with a clutch .

Everyone i know that bought the grizz wishes they bought the Jet after they see mine.
Grizz after sales service is horrid at best.
You rarely get what you pay for these days, never more.
