Need advice on 6BR fast twists

I got 4 6BR's all long range set-ups and all barrels are
8 twists.. None seem to shoot 87 vmax's or anyother
light varmint bullet very well. They will shoot 1/2 MOA but
I would like better, guess I'm spoiled w/ 1/4MOA or
less w/ heavy bullets==
Is this twist just too many rpm's or what..??
All rifles shoot 105-108 into bugholes but I want to use a
couple of them, light wt. varmint bullets)
for PDin' long range w/ the blowup
of a varmint bullet.. Is there such a thing as over
stabilization?? nothing under 95 shoot good except
80gr Fowlers and they don't expand well on PDs. Any
comments appreciated..
thanks
Doc Stone
PS- none have tuners, so that's not it!!!!![g]

Do the 105 Amax's work? how hard are you driving them? Perhaps try different bullets such as blitz kings or Barnes.

I have had real difficulty getting, all) Hornady bullets to work in my 1:8 twist BR's. I know they are great bullets, but I have never got them to work.

Doc... In my 8 twist 6br's the lightest bullet that flies acceptably is a 95 grainer. I think the twist is too fast for the lighter bullets. Get a 10 to 12 twist and build a switch bbl rig or select the worst accuracy bbl in your 8 twist armory and replace the bbl with a faster twist version. I like the 12 twist for the light bullets because I can shoot the 65 grain benchrest bullets that don't quite have the accuracy needed for benchrest but are more than capable accuracy wise for varmint shooting. Don't let anyone tell you that benchrest bullets won't work on varmints either. Regards.. Gary

I'm having just the opposite problem.
My Shilen 8 twist will shoot the 80- 87 gn bullets down near .25 moa but the heavies its designed for are staying at .5 moa.

My 6BR with PacNor 8-twist hammers the short bullets. It shoots Berger 80s into sub 0.200 groups--and it's not fussy about seating depth or powder with those.

Hornady 87s? A disaster in my gun. Typical groups were high 6s and 7s, and this gun will do honest quarter-moa in calm conditions with 105s.

I measured the diameters of some of the 87s. Quite a lot of variance. I think the jackets don't work so well in some barrels too.

It's a little unfortunate as I know some guys expressly had guns built to shoot the 87s as it seemed the perfect combination of speed, BC, explosive impact. Then they found the bullet just woulnd't shoot for them.

You might try the Noslers. Nosler makes an 80gr and a 90gr spitzer Ballistic Tip.
