Need advice on 6.5x284 load

Here's the deal. I have a custom 6.5x284 Winchester that's a great shooter. It likes 130 Berger vld ' s and H4831. It will shoot 5 shot groups in the .200 ' s at 100 yds. And about 3.5" at 500 yds. My dilemma is that I'm getting this accuracy with only 45.2 gr of
H4831. I'm not trying to get out to a 1,000 yds anytime soon but I would like to one day. I see myself using more in the 500-600 yd range more commonly. I know all the hype of this cartridge of its long range ability and certainly agree it can do well at 1000. Should I be trying to find another node or am I Ok for the distances I usually shoot? Accuracy is great but not very much speed with this load. This is the shorter throat Winchester not the Norma. Thanks

I think you are well under max. Max should come around 48-51.0grs with the 130's depending on your rifle. I think you can get excellent accuracy from H4831SC with the 130's.. I also think you may very well do better with H4350. H4350 with the "mid-weights" is SUPER ACCURATE. Try going from about 45 to about 47grains (or thereabouts) and watch what happens! As always, be mindful of pressure..

Just for a reference what is your overall cartridge length with the 130 vld's and what would your guesstimate be on whether they are jammed or how far from lands.

Quite possible you may indeed have another node but if the throat truly is very short you may not get to it.

Not that it's really relevant to your situation but if memory serves me correct my last 6.5x284 with a 30" pipe and a fairly long throat would barely achieve 2700fps with 46 grns of h4831 using the same bullet you mentioned , lapua brass , fed 210m seated to roughly 3.118" and that would've been aprox .010" away from lands.

That same rifle was eventually worked up to have a node at 48.6grns and ultimately 51.0grns (51 being the highest safe node without loosening pockets and still shot well)

I've had great accuracy with Hybrid 100V, CCI BR2s and 130 Berger VLDs jammed ..010, going 2950, 1-8 Brux 26". If you check out the previously posted link, that mv comes up more than once.

My overall length is 2.80 with 130 vld. I think jammed would Ne around 3.00 but definitely not close to Norma length.
