Need a Win 70 expert

I picked up a barreled action awhile back and am trying to get it going to loan to a buddy for deer season. Another friend loanned me a plastic take off stock he had off of his 7rem mag It will not fit my 30-06. The magazine is to deep and my action screws are to long. There are 3 screws 1 good bit shorter than other 2.Action with no mag fits, well but screws stick out 1/4'' How can i be sure im buying a stock that will fit? I am considering a coyote take off from ebay .

Second question
I believe bubba has tried to adjust the trigger with safety on trigger pull will slip past sear then fall as safety is disengaged this is obviously not safe. Can you point me to the best explanation of proper trigger adjustment Seems like a good starting point before i farm it out.
Thank you Shawn

You did not specify which trigger, there are two possible. One is a very simple (but very effective) exposed two lever type. The other is an enclosed type on the newer, FN manufactured rifles.
If your trigger is the former, loosen the lock nut just above the bottom (trigger shoe) lever. With a very fine screw driver turn the screw counter-clockwise a git at a time until you have more sear engagement. When satisified tighten the lock nut while holding the screw in place.
If your sear engagement is not the issue, unlock both spring retaining lock nuts and turn them clockwise to increase trigger pull enough to allow safe sear engagement.
If your's is the FN model, look online for a user manual for that model.

If the sear releases with the safety on, it will take more than screw adjustments to bring it back in spec. Good thing is, the older M70 triggers are infinitely repairable.
From your description, bubba did a "trigger job" by altering the sear nose, cocking piece, or both. If that is the case, the safety cam on the firing pin needs to be properly re fit so the firing pin is fully retracted and disengaged from the sear nose when the safety is applied. The angles on the sear and cocking piece are critical as well, and there are certain sequences to follow when fitting.
If you are above average handy, Jim Wisner has a good detailed write up of the trigger and how to re-fit it in one of the Brownells Gunsmith Kinks books.

Thank you I will try and find that book
