Need 90gr. Berger VLD advice for a 223 Rem

If your building a new rifle and want to shoot heavy bullets why on earth go with a 223? Ive never understood this fad of choosing one of the smallest cases to shoot one of the heaviest bullets, its not even an optimal case design. Id do a 22br, 6br, 220 beggs, even a 22ppc. Id be more apt to go the 6mm route

Well because it is less expensive, it has great performance and you can't shoot the 22BR, 6BR, 220 Beggs or a 22PPC in F/TR. There is something to be said for less recoil.

FTR and do not like the 308 reciol for 120 rounds in a weekend, and I can get to read the wind better with a .223 then move to F/Open later Jefferson

Exactly! After having been shooting the 223 with the 90's for a while now, shooting a Palma gun with 155's seems like shooting a magnum!

The magazine is available from the DCRA website as a free PDF download, and the article is called 'A Mouse on Steroids' on pages 35 to 38.

PT&G has a standard reamer on the shelf now that is based on Bob Pitcairn's freebore specs, drawing #40380 that Dave Kiff has named the 223 Rem ISSF chamber.

Please note BTW that Berger has recently dropped the 90gn LRBT version of its two 90s restricting the field to the two (Berger and JLK) VLDs and the Sierra MK the last named best avoided as it has a much lower BC than the others. It was designed for 20-inch barrel ARs with 1-6.5" twists and can only be driven at modest velocities, very much lower than those needed to use the cartridge in long-range TR and F/TR.
