Need 7mm saum loads for 1000 yd F-Class

Any suggestions for 1000 yd loads for 180vld's, Rem brass, 30" barrel reamed for 180's? This is my first 7saum and i'm having trouble finding much info on load data for the 180's. Thanks

Lots of variables depending on chamber dimensions and the type of powder you want to use.

Ive never shot the VLD's in my RASUM but my load with the Hybrids is 56.8-57.2 of H4350 with CCI BR primers.

Some guys are using magnum primers with H4831sc or H1000. It will really depend on what components you can get your hands on and what works for you. Look at the 7mm info page on this site lots of good stuff there

Thanks for the info. Previous owner also told me about 4350 today. First I've heard of it with 180's. I'll give it a try.

I have three 7mm RSAUM's and the lastest version of Quick Load. The S/W shows 4350 too fast and H1000 too slow. I have been working with H4831, RL22(25 fits also but I'm out!) and IMR7828 SSC. This is looking at something close to 100% fill and 98%+ burn in a 24, 27 and 28" barrel length, my three units. I really want the 162 grain A-Max to shoot because of its terminal ballistics but have the 180 grain Hunting VLD's also. I haven't tried them yet, work keeps getting in the way! No one hole groups yet but the 27" Bartlein shoots 1/2MOA to 200 yards which is the furthest I've been able to stretch it so far. Watch the groups shrink when I shove some 4350 or H1000 in a case! :-[ Still using BR-2 primers as when I tried 215M match primers with a stout load of RL22 I got vertical. Sorry for the rant but I just left my "Man Cave" reloading area working on some new loads! ;D

Thanks MrM, glad to hear 4831 and RL25. I have a lb of each to try. Previous owner of this rifle just sent me his load, 4831sc with the 180's so I'll start there. Turning necks, can't wait to try it out. Got a bunch of 215M's so hope they will work with the 4831sc.

Welcome to the 7 SAUM. We have four 7 SAUMs for which I have done extensive load work. I am just an average competition shooter, but have the advantage of having a 1000yd range on my farm to practice and develop. I also am able to select ideal conditions for comparing loads. I'll give you my overall opinion on the results. 180 vld or 180 hybrid seem best, however some I shoot with get good results with 168 vld and 162 A max. I recommend 210M primers, but couldn't see any difference in Wolf & CCI RR2. 215 Ms only work in the big Magnums. The Rem brass will shoot OK, however you need to sort weight groups, trim length, and anneal. Well prepped brass is probably the most important ingredient of a good group. For powder RL 22 & RL25 will develop good groups and speed, but will change with temp even though my reload room is constant temp and loads taken directly from there to the bench. The three powders I like are H4350, H4831 and H1000. 4350 56- 57 grains. 4831 around 59+ grains and H1000 around 64.5 grains. These loads are with Norma and Nosler cases. Rem cases are lighter, therefore will hold more powder and you can probably add up to 1 more grain of powder and still maintain the same pressure. WARNING! SAUM brass is very durable and over pressure is hard to detect. Measure the web dia close to the base where it protrudes from the sizing die. It will show you pressure. Also If your cases won't fit in the shell holder is a definite indicator of too much pressure. You probably will see some of this in the high end of a ladder test. There was some extensive post here on this same topic a while back in the Big Stuff section. Good Luck, Mike

Tried 4831 but couldn't get the velocity that I got using H1000, so I've been using the H1000 for 3 years and couldn't be more pleased with the results. The above suggestion for 64.5 grains with the 180 works pretty well!

If I may, I'll add my 2¢. 175 SMK, Nosler brass, CCI 250, 63.4 H1000. Can't wait to try the Berger 190 Hybrids (got a 30" 1-8" Select Match on order). I shoot mid- & long-range F-class, I'm curious: what's your barrel life been? My first barrel went south at 1046 rounds.

Got about 1200 rounds and it was still shooting pretty good after a setback, but took it off to start the new year. First barrel was a Broughton and the new one is a Brux. Both barrels seemed to like the 175 SMK. Great elevation!

clowdis, You don't mention what discipline you are shooting? Ive heard that H1000 is pretty dirty and has given people problems late in the day. In Fclass its not uncommon to shoot 70-75 rounds before cleaning.

Sorry, shooting long range prone which is generally the same course that you're shooting. I haven't noticed any dropoff of accuracy in the later relays, but I also shoot a larger X ring. As far as fouling I don't think it's any worse than Varget. If I have to shoot 3 matches in a day I will usually try to give the rifle a quick cleaning after the second match, mostly to go after the copper fouling that I hate worse than powder fouling. I'm also not saying that someone shouldn't try 4831, just that it didn't work out for me.

In my Savage 7 SAUM 24" barrel , I'm currently using Berger 168 vld hunting with 58.4grs H4350 in Remington brass. I'm getting 2947 avg fps and shoots really well. I have not tested it down range yet, but soon. I've done some other testing with 168's and H4831 and found a good upper end node around 63-63.5grs but did not do any further testing.

Im running a 7 SAUM with Broughton 30" and Pierce comp action. 60.8g of H4831sc and a BR2 will produce 2995 with very low SD 3-4.
300 Norma brass necked down. I have shot this a few times at our 1000 yard range and have shot back to back (5) shot groups while tuning my seating depth. the first measured 1"x3" and the next one measured 2"x2.5" Berger 180 Hybrid @ .009 off.
This was with a Mcmillian A-5 with a track plate..... not really a bench gun
