necking up 6.5x284 lapua brass

I have a bunch of 6.5x284 brass that is turned for my xp100. I just tried necking one up to 7 and voilà, it is the exact loaded neck diameter I need for my 284 Shehane. Will I have any problems with doughnuts forming doing it this way?

I seem to have problems that others dont have, haha,,it all depends on total neck clearance and how much of the neck length your projectile utilizes....mesure everything ,,,esp neck dia with a bullet seated,,,Roger

Yeah I measured with a bullet seated. I will double check down around the neck shoulder junction but I think it's going to be a good fit. Thanks

sky...you are on the right trac,,,if you push one of those "LONG" 7mm bullets wayyyy down in the neck past the shoulder ,,,it will swell up and rob your clearance and cause pressure to skyrocket!!!,,,keep an eye on it,,,Roger

Only when necking down is it a problem...

Interesting.

Lapua 6.5-284 gives me a wicked donut when I neck it up to use in my .317" neck 284.

Agreed. After I expand the necks, I do a slight cleanup neck turn. The cutter always removes a ring of brass all the way around at the neck-shoulder junction (using a Sinclair NT-3000 with a 40 degree cutter).

Wait, are you sure about that? I think necking up is the issue, because you are sizing into the thicker shoulder. I definitely see donuts in 6.5-284, necked up to 7MM and have to turn to prevent. Sizing down, you are still in the thinner neck brass.
