?necking down 243 to 22-243

I need some advice on neck turning. In necking down brass from 243 to22-243 I am first turning the brass and then sizing it down.I am experiencing a small ring at the bottom of the neck on the inside of the case at the shoulder juncture after I size down.Is this due to my not turning the neck down far enough?I need to reduce the necks to fit my chamber. Thanks,

Your referring to the dreaded dougnut..
If you use a expanding mandrel to open the case mouth up you will push most of it to the outside to be trimmed..
You need to cut into the shoulder just a bit, and that will help..
As long as the base of the bullet don't touch it, you will be fine with it....
This may help show you how far to go into the shoulder, the bottom one has been fired...

To add to Preacher's post.......

Neck down first, run the mandrel in the necks, then turn.

Seems like if you turned the necks down before sizing you would have less chance of forming that darned old dreaded doughnut because of excessive brass being in the way ?????

thanks for your help.I ran a reamer in the existing cases and all seems well.Any Middlested shooters out there?

There is a guy on Savageshooters.com named Outlawkyote that has been shooting one for a while. Might give him a buzz over there if you need any specifics.
