neck up or neck down for 260rem

Summit,
i vote for neck down... only because i have lots of .308 brass. The theory is that necking up might thin the brass too much. i also do it the hard way using LC brass, and turn the neck just a hair into the neck/ shoulder junction to avoid the donut. Just my humble .02

I vote neck up. My mind likes it better when I take the already uniform Lapua brass and strech it a bit. Roughtly .017. It seems that compressing the brass from a 308 diameter to a 260 would inherently cause more problems by bunch in the brass together.

I have ABSOLUTELY ZERO evidence that this is the case but it sure seems that way. At least n my world. ;D

Going up .020" is much easier than going down .044". Necking down you also lose case length. Starting with .243 brass you'll wind up with a longer caseneck, which is good. Any difference in neckwall thickness will be insignificant.

necking up from 243 to 264 will thin neck brass by about 1 thou. Generally not a problem. If you were going up further it could be but not to 6.5mm really. If you neck down I would do it in a 7mm stage in between for better brass control.

I like to neck them down. Then I can turn the necks closer to my chamber dimensions.

Neck Nothing...Buy Nosler brass in 260....Comes sized , trimmed, mouth beveled, drilled flash holes, no work to do on primer pockets, batch weight matched...Will take hot loads as good as Lapua...Loads up with .291 neck no turn...LT
