Neck Turning Tools

I have read many articles tonight and tools are always being improved.

What is your favorite neck turning tool? K&M, Pumpkin, or the Sinclair? Or one I haven't mentioned.

Thanks, Dennis

Dennis,
I started with the Sinclair 1000. got it used here in the forum and it came with great advice and mentorship. after sore hands I got the 21st century. I love their products and they have a happy customer for life. the PMA looks nice too and I think the click adjustments look to be more "positive" than the 21st. Either tool or the ones you mention will serve you well. FWIW the I use mine to make LC 308 into 260 rem brass, and I crush in one step. so the brass is pretty thick. I also turn 308 for my palma gun. If you go Sinclair, go 4000 it felt the most comfortable to me.
cheers,
Doc

PMA for the money is great . I have two easy to adjust. Repeatable. Great too . Good people call and talk to them they will tell you what you need .
They are under PMA tool . Com

Punkin is the best . Adjustable in .0001" measurements and very accurate ! Also I have never seen a Punkin lose it's value . I have seen them selling here for the same price as new and never seem to last long for sale . I use my Punkin for 20cal. to 338cal. and it works awesome !

I use Sinclair Nt1000 tools. For proper neck turning it is essential that the expander mandrel match's the turner mandrel. With Sinclair I find that I don't have to worry about finding parts down the road, as more than likely they will always be there. I have Several Nt1000 tools, on my ppc I have 2 dedicated to it. I set them and forget them, I do 2 passes on my brass. One tool is the first pass the second tool is the send pass. The secrete to neck turning is get your self a Sinclair case holder , and place it in a cordless screwdriver. Run the brass in and don't try to hold the turner solid, let it flow, and wobble.

If you want the best turner money can buy get a Pumpkin turner, make sure you get the expander with it, and again the case holder. I have a buddy that has one and I have used it a few times. all I can say is very nice, but after all its is only a trimmer. For the cost I can buy several Sinclair units, and accomplish the same thing. It turns out to be a personal thing.

I forgot to mention I currently have the Forester trimmer.

It's good, but I believe some of the newer trimmers are easier to use. Plus it's not as portable as the ones discussed above.

One plus, I have the Sinclair expander die, so my initial cost would be a few dollars less.

I looked for this tool on their website. Do you have the part number for the holder?

What's the main difference between the Sinclair NT 4000 & the NT 1500?

The 1500 is almost the same price as the 1000.

PMA's are nice, I know several using those also. The 21st Century looks nice also.

I like the point above, having several Sinclair NT1000.

I will turn 3 neck sizes. I could have three of the 1000's for the price of one of the above trimmers!

I have the Sinclair Premium (4000) neck turning tool kit. It is excellent, with everything you need.. I also get the carbide mandrels>>>especially good for necking up, prior to turning. They are hard and slick... I also got the Sinclair "Driver Case Holders" >>>I can turn 100 necks in less than 1 hour, after they have gone thru the expander mandrel.. Fabulous equipment...

I use the Forster outside neck turner i love it.

I use Forster neck lathes (I have 3 of them) with 1/4" power adapters. They are fast and excellent.

I have the 21st Century lathe system, nice stuff. But if I had to do it again, I'd buy K&M, I had to buy their inside reamers anyway, because of donuts.
For anyone turning because of donuts, their reamers and flat iron expanders are the only way to fly.

I bought a Hart neck turning set around 10 years ago and have been very satisfied with it. Necks all turn out to be very uniform. I have thought many times about buying the 21st Century version, but will keep my original until I actually see one in operation.
