Neck turning pics

Alright, 6PPC turned necks, do they look okay or have I turned down on the should to much? I'm looking for help, not just criticism. Yes everyone I know about DJ's Brass service and I have 200 6BR cases I may send to him but I try to be a "doer" and like the accomplishment of completing and accomplishing the task.
I'll take any "good" advice on working with the 6PPC, I have LT-32, V133 and H322, Barts Ultra, CCI 450s,Br-4, Federal 205M and and want to learn, and yes I know I have a long way to go to be really competitive but Lord willing I have that time. Shoot straight and most of all..........have fun!

I also turn my 260 necks just past the junction with the shoulder. I use a 20 degree cutter from 21st Century to get a nice blend. My theory is that I am less likely to develop a donut on the inside surface.

They look fine. If it were me, and I had to turn more, I would shorten the distance turned on the shoulder by about half that width. BTW, I hate case prepping and neck turning is my most hated part of case prep. But, I do it, because it gives me more confidence in my loads, which will hopefully, let me shoot better.

I thought turning my 50 BMG Match brass was tedious. After turning my 6mm BR necks, I now know exactly what tedious is o_O

Yes, I am blessed (and cursed) with the 6PPC and the 30BR and I too use the 21st century power lathe, it sure helps!

Try hydro-forming 1000 Dashers and the neck turning them for one customer. That my friends is TEDIOUS!

Your a better man than me, I'm trying to get the motivation just to turn another 40 cases.
Its not the turning that I hate I enjoy that, it's the trimming 1st.

I can turn out 5 cases a minute on an IDOD...without trying to be quick. I’ve turned 100 pieces of .284 in under 20min. No lube to apply or clean up but have to clean out interior chips so that time saved is a wash. I would think it would be a worthwhile investment for a brass prepping service. Any comment DJ?

They look just like mine. Obsessing about should they be only half as far into then shoulder as yours, or should they be in more is what good keyboard shooters do. Yours are looking good. Now, learn to shoot with constant attention to flags and how you handle delivering the shot. Put together a process to tune your rifle that works for you and stick to it.Shoot all the matches you can, nothing fine tunes like competition. It's fine to try things outside of your system but if they don't show an upgrade let them go. If you can find a consistently good shooter as a mentor, do it. Try to talk to both short and long range shooters. Two different areas of reloading. You might, find blending the 2 disciplines will help you refine your loading and shooting skills. Read the cartridge guidelines in another area on this website. Good luck, the PPC is an amazing cartridge.

Thank you Jeff, I am trying to do that all, I'm planning on going to my home range 1 or 2 days next week (depends on work) just to do those things. I guess one of the reasons I worry about the depth is I've lost a few necks during competition shooting, learning the wind and working with flags..........well that is a work in progress :mad:o_O

Are you losing necks, or at the neck shoulder junction?

I use an angled cutter to match the shoulder, my cases look just like yours and I don't sweat it either.
Look at the turning coming off the neck versus what is coming off as you kiss the shoulder, its a much shallower cut (but wider) for me and then I don't force it into the shoulder.

I've never lost a case at the neck/shoulder junction. A few at the case mouth end, but with a bushing sizer not working the neck down low, that hasn't happened to me (yet).

I have cut into the shoulder a bit more than I wanted to on ocassion but have never had a case come apart and I load on the warm side. I do use a cutter with a 30 degree angle. My point is don't get lost and mired in the details. Guy who reads conditions best and makes no mistakes wins.

Yes sir, I compete against them every weekend we shoot UBR, Larry Moore, Mike Ezell, Brud Sheets, Richard Alford and many more! Just go to the UBR website and you'll find my name at the bottom ;-) The ones that came apart are all 30BR and not sure if that makes any difference, I'm still learning and will be until they put me 6' under.
