Neck Turning Mandrels ??

GAnderson

Will either the Sinclair or Forster Neck turning mandrels work in the K&M tool? I am in need of a .22 neck turning mandrel for a K&M and it doesn't appear that anyone has one except for the Carbide one with the donut cutter. I was wondering if the Sinclair or Forster mandrel would work. Thanks in advance for any responses.

Measure the shank size and call sinclair and ask them if their carbide would work. They should know if anyone does.

Yes, that's what I figured I might have to do....I was going to place an order with them online this evening if somebody knew for sure. I will call in the morning. Thanks

Beware, they are not cut to the same dimensions. What I mean is this:

If you use a Sinclair expander, then use a Sinclair turning mandrel. If you use a K&M expander, then use the K&M turning mandrel.

You have to do that because the Sincliar expander is a tad smaller in diameter than the K&M turning mandrel. So if you expand with Sinclair and turn with K&M, the brass will be VEEERY tight on the tuning mandrel.

Ask how I know? Two ways. #1: I did that >:(. #2: like a real man, after I did that I researced it and called K&M, LOL :o!!

You probably already know that the expander mandrels are not interchangeable, they are two very different tools. Only the turning mandrels may be interchanged.

I think K&M uses an unusual shank (part of the mandrel that is gripped by the tool body) diameter for their turning mandrel that the other guys, too...

Good intel from GPat!

21 st century mandrels won't fit to my knowledge, different expander mandrels, and to use a K&M in a 21st neck turning tool you need a specified arbor adapter for K&M mandrels. Sinclair and PMA Tool will fit the 21st centruy products, although you should not interchange expander and turning mandrels from the different producers.

Thanks for all of the replies and information....I called Sinclair and as you have all stated, their mandrel will not fit. I went back on K&M's website yesterday and I'll be darned if they didn't now have them in stock, so I ordered what I needed. Appreciate all the responses and thanks to all.
