Neck turning and annealing

I always feel like a kid on Christmas morning when I look at a batch of customers brass that I’ve just finished turning on the AutoDod. The near perfect uniformity of the shiny necks all standing there so proud and tall almost brings a tear to my eye.

All neck turning is completed with an AutoDod and all annealing is completed with an Amp Annealer. Neck turning will only be preformed on new or freshly fireformed (unsized and unexpanded brass).

What are the dark splotches inside some of the necks? Is that from not doing a full clean up cut?

Some of it is shadows. Some of it is not being able to get a full cut either inside or outside, this is due to the brass not being perfectly concentric plus the fact that I may only be taking off a total of .002" of brass. The further out of concentricity the cases are the more dark or shipped spots there are. That is the reason that I turn only new and freshly fire formed and unmolested brass.

Since I don't see any out of round cases in person, your eyes must be calibrated better than mine! There were a few slightly bent necks upon opening the boxes and in this instance a small mandrel (just large enough to feel some drag on a strait neck) is used to remove the dent.
