Neck Turning .257 Roberts A.I.

I purchased a pilot and 43* cutter from K & M to neck turn my Nosler Brass. After running it through my F. L. sizing die, it is very hard to get the pilot into the neck. After it starts, it seems to run into a "doughnut". I have only shot this brass 4 or five times. Question is, have anyone ever asked for a "custom" sized pilot from K & M? I was toying with the idea of chucking the pilot in a drill and taking it down a half a thousands or so. I contacted Redding about a larger expander ball and they said they could not do this. I am using STP as a lube. I know that they make a carbide pilot with a cutter but am too cheep to spend another $55!

My question is if you fired it in existing chamber at least 3 times if the bullet slipped in a fired case why do they need turned.

Stan, This is the start of a LONG story. After having a rifle re barreled, I started to get sooting on the case shoulders and the necks. Never had shoulder sooting before. I tried everything I could think of to get rid of it. Annealing, neck sizing the first .1" of the brass, Several powders from fast to slow. Nothing worked. A shooting buddy suggested turning the necks. He did nine for me as I did not have a set up for the caliber. Not only did the sooting go away, but the accuracy improved. After I received the pilot and cutter, I started to set up the turner. A little bit at a time. Found the brass was way out of round. This is a premium brass. That is why I am turning the cases.
