Neck turned cases in a no turn chamber?

Hello all,

Just wondering if accuracy would suffer much if you where to used neck turned brass in a no neck turn chamber.

Thanks,

Matt

Matt - That'd probably depend somewhat on the individual rifle. I've done neck-turning (just a light, clean-up cut - often not even cutting the entire neck) on 223 brass for my 600yd. loads in an AR15. The object wasn't so much to improve concentricity as it was to insure more consistent neck tension from round-to-round. I honestly don't know how much (if any) it helped, but it sure as heck didn't hurt accuracy.

Matt, I've had the same experience as Dennis. The additional clearance won't hurt anything and the more consistent neck tension is a plus. These days I order slightly tighter neck reamers, but that's really not too critical for our application (Highpower).

I turn the necks for a no-turn 6mmBR chamber and it has been extremely accurate. Great vertical and low ES/SD. I do think it works the brass harder because I have gotten more benefit from regular annealing than others report.

Hello all,

Thanks for the wisdom! I recently bought some neck turned brass from a forum member and I am having a barrel chambered that will have a no neck turn chamber. I was really hoping that I didn't waste my money on brass I couldn't use. When I get the rifle all put together I will have to post a few pictures.

Thanks again,

Matt Horn
