Neck tension, how far down do you go?

Hello, quick question.
When setting neck tension, do you guys push the mandrel all the way until you get to the shoulder? or, do you guys set neck tension 75% of the neck and back it out? I believe I read this somewhere in the forums, but I can't seem to find it. I FL size while pushing shoulders back .002 with the neck sizing button taken out if that helps.

Hahaha, okay. I have a small sample set up. I'll give it a try. I was just wondering what everyone else was doing. Thanks.

I run the mandrel all the way below the neck/shoulder junction. It the simplest approach, and it works. Trying to mimic the partial sizing of the neck generally observed when using a bushing die would be painful, and might even introduce an additional unwanted variable in the the case prep process. No need to go that route.

It may just be my ignorance, but I could not setup my Redding comp dies to neck all the way down without the spring loaded sleeve bottoming out before I could do so, so I always just assumed that you are not supposed to try and size the entire neck with the bushing.

In all my SR bench rifles I go about 4/5th of the way down as far as sizing the neck, bumping the shoulder about a thousandth . I leave the other 5th alone to center the case neck in the chamber. Like Matt said you don't want the bullet pressure ring to go below the sized portion of your neck. That's what most everyone does that I shoot against.
