Neck tension for hunting rounds

Would .001-.0015 exceptable tension for hunting loads? May have to order different expander mandrel. So if bullet measures .2835 I'm guessing I should order a .281?

I would prefer at least .002 to keep the bullets from moving on the rounds in the magazine.

Over a 1/4"?? I dont think you seat a bullet? MAYBE .0280?
Bottom line is in a repeater .003-.004 hold to keep bullets in place.

I get my mandrels for my porter precision expander from ebay. they are around $3ea. for that price you can have a large assortment. look for Vermont gage pins.

Wow what a deal, K&M wants .$27 I believe. What are the gauge pins ?

Cheap pins that can be pointed to act like a mandrel. Gave $175 for a set from .011" to .500".

You have to get the porter precision products expander body. Do a search on here we have discussed it a bunch. Call kenny and tell him i sent you. You can then get the pins off ebay in actually less than half ten thousandths increments. You can tune neck tension in one lb increments

Get one pin from him so you can see how he tapers the end or he sells them for not much money

Depends on the cartridge recoil. . 458 needs more the 2.

This is fine. For bushing/partial neck sizing no more than seated bearing length, anything over 1thou interference fit(after spring backs) is just excess anyway. It does nothing but increase seating forces, as the bullet re-expands your excess sizing, and hardens necks faster..

These bullets are seating down into the case as they are Barnes and do best at .050 off ,so that being said the neck has bullet full length of it. According to my measurement I'm just shy of .0015? Will this work ?

Yes sir it should be just fine
