neck sizing bushing for no turn 6.5x47 Lap

Hey guys,

Ive got a new rifle coming that is chambered in 6.5x47 Lapua. The reamer is from Dave Kiff and is for a no turn neck.

My question is, What size neck bushings does a no turn 6.5x47 Lap need? I dont have any brass for it yet, but I do have .290'-.293' bushings I use for my 6.5-284. Was curious to know what you guys were using?

Thanks

Jerid

What kind neck tension is that giving? and what bullet are you using?

Also, whats your prefered amount of tension .002' -.004'?

Thanks

Jerid

The size of the bushing has nothing to do with the dimensions of your reamer. My guess is that the neck will be .299 on this reamer. The bushing is to fit YOUR brass. You need to measure a loaded round and subtract accordingly- don't worry about the stupid reamer.

I can get by with a .290 bushing on most of my 6.5mm brass but some needs a .289.

Loaded is .291, so .002 for me, also a Kiff reamer, .293 no-turn neck.

There is no way that .293 is a no-turn reamer. You would need brass with a .0125 thickness

Sorry, but you are incorrect.

A .293 neck is absolutely a no-turn with the 6.5x47 case.

Loaded rounds measure .2905 to .291, depending on the brass lot.

130gr Berger vld same here .293 neck on my reamer loaded rounds measure .2905-.291 its worked pretty well for 1200rds so far

Thanks alot for the info, Looks like i might allready have the bushings I need.

Also, from everything Ive read, RE-15 seems to be a good starting place?

I have had really good luck with Varget start with 35.5grs and work up the load for my rifle is 37.5grs with a CCI BR4
good luck
give us a range report when you get it together

I am using Varget w/ the JLK and Berger 130s as well, but would not hesitate to use RE-15 either. I am running just a tad higher than 280man is, and as he noted, do work up.

Do let us know how she works for you.

I have about 3000+ rounds downrange now out of 2 different barrels, and have been pretty happy with the 6.5x47's overall characteristics and performance. All in all it is a good choice!

Wow- I am going by the other 6.5 brass I have; 260 Rem, 6.5-284, 264 Win mag and 6.5x55. All this brass makes loaded rounds at .293 and up. I am amazed that the 6.5x47 brass is so thin- obviously never intended for anything other than target shooting.

Dennis, I know that 6mmBR has a thinner neck thickness than any .243 brass ive used. I use a .268' on my 6mmBR and a .271' for the .243.

Hopefully Ill have the rifle in about 4 weeks. Ive got Varget and Re-15 to try. as for bullets I would like it to shoot either the 130 VLD or 123 Scenar. Also it will be my first custom gun, so I cant wait to see how it shoots..

What kind of velocitys are the 130gr bullets running?

Thanks again,

Jerid

I am finally getting 2890 with 130gr Bergers,6.4 mils drop at 800m). This isn't an accuracy sweet spot for me, but it competes with conventional 300wm performance for target shooting. In fact, I use the same wind formula for both.
