Neck bushing ?

Well, I misspoke. It's not the bushing neck sizing die but the fl neck bushing sizing die, which explains why it's gathering dust. I was going to fl size my brass as my last step and set the neck tension with the correct bushing at the same time. Decided not to go that route since I'm only shooting one gun.

savageshooter86, it seems like you're misunderstanding the function of bushing/sizing dies.
There are variants.
-Bushing neck die -partial neck sizing -accepting Redding or Wilson bushings
-Bushing body die -body sizing including shoulder bump w/partial neck sizing -accepting Redding or Wilson bushings -more commonly referred to as FL busing die(it's not). This is your Whidden and Harrells mentioned.
-Bushing bump die -accepting only makers neck-shoulder-combined bushings -Almost FL sizing? I don't get it, Warner offers these, Tubb offers for 6xc.

There are plenty of actual FL dies, and none have bushings.
In custom form these are pretty much as good as it gets w/regard to runout. But there is nothing good in FL sizing necks, and you lose tension adjustment provided by bushings. However, they can be worked & adjusted to provide exactly what you need(if needing FL sizing) and this is really a good plan.
It's the way I'd go if FL sizing.

Wilson dies are inline/hand dies, and only come in neck sizing(partial). They don't screw into a reloading press, but float under any arbor press. I use these and have used every type over the years.
My favorite screw-in dies are JLC Precision bushing body dies, but only for the body sizing. I always neck size separately with Wilsons, and expand with Sinclair mandrels.

do as many do. Send 3 fired cases to "Harrells", and your problems are over with. They are the people to go to. Ask anyone who has done this. I spent some time with them at the last Super Shoot and saw this first hand.

Another thing...I had a Redding FL small base die which was oversized by .002. Yes, they replaced it, but a die from Harrells will be right the first time around. Reasonable too.

thanks for the explanation of them, but I knew their function already. Whidden calls them FL Bushing Die so that is what I was going by since he makes them. Like you said, I am needing to FL size and wanting adjustment of neck tension by using bushings.

I tried the neck size down then use expanding mandrel, but not sure what that is doing as far as runout. Going from 344 down to 333, then expanding them back up to 334. Sounds like a lot of working of the necks of the brass to me

It is indeed....a lot of working of the necks. We in BR turn our necks so that a loaded round measures 1 1/2-2 thou. under actual neck measurement of the rifle. The measuring point being at the base of the bullet when it is seated.
