The Washington State Championship/Ed Frombach Memorial 3-gun match was held on September 2-4, 2023 at the Tacoma Rifle and Revolver Club. The course of fire was 100/200 yards 5-shot groups in the Sporter (SP), Light Varmint (LV), and Heavy Varmint (HV) classes. The temperature was mild in the high 60s to high 70s. There was a mix of clouds and sun and variable wind conditions. There was a good showing with shooters arriving from Alaska, Oregon and all over Washington.
In SP class, Larry Boers, consistent with last month’s performance in the SP class, took first at 100 yards. He shot a .2138 aggregate and had the smallest group with a .121! Paul Weaver took second with a .2332 and Jeff Lewis was in third with a .2394. At 200 yards, Super Jeff Crose removed the kryptonite Larry placed under his bench and took first with a .2309 and the smallest group with a .212. Bryan Zolnikov took second with a .2529 and Jeff Lewis took third with a .2882.
In the LV class, Super Jeff Crose shot small at 100 yards with a beautiful teen agg of .1992. Larry Boers took second with a .2012 and Paul Weaver took third with a .2436. At 200 yards, Mustafa Bilal shot small with a .2035, Larry Boers took second with a .2651 and Paul Weaver took third with a .2745.
We finished with HV class and Eric Stanton shot best at 100 yards. He shot a .2210 agg. Super Jeff Crose took second with a .2290 and Mustafa Bilal was in third with a .2336. At 200 yards, Larry Boers took first with a .2084 agg. Super Jeff Crose took second with a .2165 and Eric Stanton took third with a .2403.
Of special note:
After the match, the points were tallied up to see who would be awarded the "Shooter of the Year" trophy. This is the best ranking of all the grand aggregates (100 and 200 yard combined) throughout the year. Congratulations to Bryan Zolnikov for winning our Northwest Region "Shooter of the Year" award! Bryan had 17 points, Super Jeff had 14, and there was a three-way tie for third with 10 points among Eric Stanton, Larry Boers, and Mustafa Bilal.
It was a great year with more turnout than the previous few years, range records shot, potential NBRSA record shot, added a score match to the schedule, and great potlucks with great people! We are finished up for the year and looking forward to next year.
Special thanks to our crew for their outstanding service this entire year! Target Crew: Cole and Case Vukich and Mark Henderson. Scorer: Robin Blanchard. Range Officer: Geoff Hallett. The crew was reliable and did a great job!
