The inaugural Bayou Rifles Lapua Southern Regional is taking place this weekend and already we have some exciting developments. On Friday, the Team Matches took place and we have had some great results. The F-Open Team Match was won by The long Shots under the wind coaching of the incomparable Michelle Gallagher who came in from Arizona to steer David Gosnell, Shawn Ahrens, Jeff Cochran and Ken Dickerman to a 789-35X for the first match and a 774-27X for the second match for an aggregate of 1563-62x. Second place went to Tex-Mex, (Frank Vance, Richard Goody, John Myers and Doug McIntosh,) shooting 776-15X and 768-21X for a total of 1544-36X. In F-TR, Team BRI-FTR under the wind coaching of Denys Beachemin took first place in both matches as Johnny Ingram, Omar Alonzo, Ray Weaver and I shot 791-34X (beating the current National Record of 790-31X) and 772-20X for a total of 1563-54X. Yeah, y’all read that right the .308 shooters beat the F-Open guys with their 7mm and fancy front rests in the first match and tied for the aggregate, only getting beat by 8X. I do want to point out that all the rifles shot by the team are built by Omar Alonzo. Johnny shot a 200-9X in the first string of the first match and Omar was right behind shooting a 199-9 also in the first match. The F-TR runners-up were the No-X’s (Ron Santhuff, Mike Merkler, David Rozier and Peter Johns,) shooting 743-8 and 733-8 for a total of 1476-16X. In Sling/Metallic sights, Team Texas X’s members Kenneth Porter, Gary Henry, Tony Miller and Keith Stephens won that division shooting 796-31X and 782-35X respectively for a total of 1578-66X. The runners-up was Team Sabine (Jon Rhynard, Randy Nash, Kemp Fuller and Wes Van Bramer,) shooting 786-32X and 771-29X for a total of 1557-61X.
We just finished the first day of individuals and I’m sure someone will post the interim scores. The wind was wicked today and scores suffered, but it was a great match and no rain. Tomorrow we will have the second day of individuals followed by the awards ceremony and the door prizes. I want thank our sponsors, Lapua, Kelbly Shilen…
If you didn’t come to this match, you missed a great event but there’s always next year.
