N540 in large container?

Does anyone know why you can't find N540 powder in a large container? I would like to order some of this powder but I can only find it in 1 # containers for about $40 a pound. Talk about expensive!! Wish they sold a 8 # jug for $250. That would be much more reasonable.

Viht powders are sold in Europe as 1Kg (2.2lb) primarily with some smaller size bottles rarely available and selected N100 grades in 3.5Kg (~7 3/4lb) packages. N500 series have never been available here in the UK in anything larger than the 2Kg size.

We're in the opposite fix from US shooters. Alliant / Hodgdon are much more expensive than Viht grades, and we hardly ever see the 8lb containers here for these makes.

I recently picked up a two lb bottle of N540 via the classifieds here from a local guy for $50 along with some other sealed powders.

It was my lucky day I guess.

So it's safe to assume the old n540 powder is good? I have someone local that is willing to trade 12# of n540 from 2001 in 2 # jugs for 16# of varget I have. I'm doing the trade but was slightly concerned about the age of the powder.

should be no problem especially if it was stored in a somewhat decent climate. you could always have him open one container to inspect. honestly, im still shooting some powders from the 80's that my dad passed down to me.
