N.C. Egg Shoot

It seems to me that if they offered the Grand Prize rifle to everyone, It would draw more shooters. It strikes me as being a little arrogant.

If this is the Hickory shoot:
Me & a buddy were very interested in trying it, until it came out in BR Central that a gun can be used by more than one shooter. So it seems we would be competing against shooting "teams". Where one sights, fouls, & gets the barrel stable, then passes it to the other to shoot for the prize, incredibly of course).
This may be alowed, but in my view -it's cheating.

Also, there is nothing to prevent people from shooting 100lb 'guns' against you.

It is my understanding that the reason the grand prize can only be won by someone who has shot in the match before is to reward those shooters who have supported the match over the years,at least once), not a shooter that will come one time to win the rifle.

As far as the rules are concerned, it would seem to me that anyone that goes to the trouble and expense to offer a match should be able to set any rules they want. The same rules apply to all, and if you can use them to your benefit, then good for you.

By the way, I understand that the grand prize is a custom rifle built by Clay Spencer.

I know a few people that won't be going, because of the Grand Prize thing. That is interesting to find out that several shooters can use the same gun. That doesn't seem right. Are they allowed to consult each other between relays?

HAH, see my post on that thread. Why make rules, when you can BEAT THE SYSTEM!

Glenn--We also have the right to be upset about an unfair rule ;)

I guess a first time shooter, there by himself is SCREWED.

This is poor judgement IMO FOR SURE.

YMMV,

Jason,

In the past there has been quite a bit of "gaming" the system that has rewarded the best prepared "teams". This year Larry has changed the match format and rules to neutralize such efforts. For instance, no spotting scopes on the premises, no examination of targets till after the match and all 9 shots fired with one trip to the line. No sighters and no foulers. The berms that define the distances will not be pushed up until the range is closed today so there can be no practice at the match distances. Larry's intention is to make the match more like a real hunting scenario and less like a prone BR match.

I've never had more fun at a match than I have at Larry's. Sorry you won't be there, it's a hoot!

Don't forget... a first time shooter CAN win the match, just not the Clay Spencer rifle.

As far as winning, I would put my money on the shooters that have shot this match before. They take it seriously, and will be hard to beat.

I think there are plenty of shooters from varied disciplines that would be capable of winning this match. I just think it would help to draw some of them out of the woodwork, by offering the Grand Prize to everyone. I wouldn't want to drive all the way from Indiana to watch someone, I beat, walk away with the Grand Prize, if indeed I won.

Greg--who needs to handle the targets...that is what 50x scopes are for ;)

Still rubs me the wrong way. Besides i have a local g-hog match tomorrow ;)
