N-133 in heavy 6mm ARC in Bolt Rifle

I have been using LeveleRevolution in my bolt 6 ARC with good results. I am running a 109 Berger and getting good groups. The problem I have is the SD and ES are all over the place. I was seeing that the N-133 has been in the 6PPC and kicking ass for a long time and was needing some input from ya'll about the possibility of trying it in a heavy bullet with the bigger case. The reloading manuals have it being used in the lighter bullets but not in the 95 grain and heavier.

This is a bolt gun not and AR.

I would try N135.....probably work much better with heavy bullet

You would probably hit pressure before you see any decent velocities with N133 and the heavies....most likely will not operate the gas system either.

I was out last night working up an ocw with n133 and 65gr berger....found an awesome node towards the top end, the spent cases ejected but there just was not quite enough pressure or too much buffer/spring weight to get back and strip the next round for the rifle length gas ...essentially turned into a bolt action.

That said....I did have a custom self made heavy rifle buffer and a heavier rifle buffer spring I was using for the heavies so that may be the underlying issue..Hopefully a standard buffer weight and standard spring will get it running..I also plan on swapping the fa bcg to a slightly lighter sa bcg.

N133 is just to fast for the heavies...75gr is probably still too heavy...

eta- just noticed this was for bolt action...disregard pertaining to gas

Like many things shooting related, there are very few things set in stone. N133 is too fast to be "ideal" in an ARC with the heavy bullets but that's not the same thing as saying that it can't work.

I'd try n135 and n140, or several other powders in the varget/h4895 burn rate range. I just think that range is closer to ideal for what you're shooting but...testing is how we KNOW stuff. If n133 is giving you good results and you're happy, then it's working for you, but yeah, I think there are other options that should work better in terms of fill rate and speed...which may or may not translate to better accuracy, too.

Based on the data listed in the link below You can expect it to work though the velocity sacrifice may be difficult to accept with the heavier projectiles.

Personally I have been pleased with it with 80 & 90 grain projectiles with a bolt action CZ527 in 6mm ARC 22" barrel.
