My new to me lathe

My Uncle Bill and Cousin Jason picked up my Monarch 10EE and moved it into my shop. I will get it wired up in the next week or so. Kinda of a funny setup. The lathe runs on 220 single phase and the coolant pump is 220 3 ph.
Coming off the trailer.

Picking it up from the light end to be able to put it the way that I wanted it.
Surprising how smart young people are these days. Jason thinks his Dad is stupid.
My wife said"Oh, sounds like you and our Sons".

I wanted it to face my 6913 Clausing.

To the left side of the photo I will roll my lathe table which has my chambering and measuring tools, toolholders, misc. chucks, indicators, surface plate, a drawer full of carbide inserts, and a big drawer of emery rolls from 180-800 grit.My colletts are on it also.
You can see my Rollin Saw to the left. It is a valuable piece of equipment to me.

Next picture is of my 2 Bridgeports. Both have VFDs.
I have a lot of shop clean up to do.

I give most anything I have to own one of those two American made pieces of perfection.
I like your shop set up as well, I wish I had that kind of room in mine. Maybe one day. Thanks for sharing. Lee

Roger,
It is a 6" cable tensioned slab on 20 piers. We do not have soil movement problems here. My slab is 14 years old and no cracks at this time. My shop at my last house will probably crack soon. It ain't a question of if, only when. It was black gumbo clay soil. The engineer said I didn't need piers, but I did and we have a lot of them under our house.
An old friend owned Dallas Foundation Drilling and bored my piers for both the house and shop.

I ask because a friend built a shop/garage last year and I believe he said he needed 2ft of concrete for the shop area. I guess construction and soil types would account for that. BTW he has 3 machines (2 V-mills and 1 lathe)

It has been a while since I ran a 10EE. It is a 56 model called a works in a drawer. A WIAD machine. Monarch still supports them but said $85,000-$100,000 for them to make them like new. With the tooling that I received, I believe it will be fine. It has a Jacobs Chuck set up and a 3 jaw tru-adjust chuck. All of the parts are there for the collett closer other than the draw bar itself.
I do like the Jacobs chuck set up better than a chuck for certain operations. It does have a tapering attachment as well as the ELSR or electric lead screw reverse. It is a very nice feature if you do a lot of threading. If you use it it will stop at the same place ea. time and pull the threading out. It reverses. now you just dial in the compound for the nest pass and go for it. It is very hard to chamber on this lathe. The headstock is very long and it is only 20" between centers. My Clausing is perfect for chambering.

Very nice indeed, what does wiad mean butch? I love a clean well organized shop just like yours.

As much as I would love a shop like yours I believe I will keep sending actions to be barreled so as to have time to shoot! So glad you have the machines you need to keep us running!

If the Wiad ever goes out, simply do a VFD conversion on the machine with a 5hp motor. You will have to fabricate a mount and modify the gear reduction box input gear in addition to possibly machining a shaft extention for the motor. There are a couple of threads on PM from guys that have done it.

It is a machine with early electronics. It has 2 thyratron tubes(C16J) filament transformers that are very expensive. $499.95ea on Ebay. I did get the sockets and new tubes to replace them if necessary. My friend that I bought it from is an electrical engineer. The machine works fine. For moving we removed the tubes and put them in padded boxes. If I were to have electronic problems, Brad will be there to help.
This machine is a case of"want", not a need.

That is a great looking lathe. I've heard of the DC drive problems with the monarchs. Could they be reworked with an AC 3 phase drive motor and use a VFD with that? I will try to figure out how to do that if I ever get one.

I'm not concerned with it. Seems it has been great for 58 years is a testament to the design. I believe The Practical Machinest forum has the most knowledgeable people anywhere on the 10EE. A million dollars of facts and helpful hints are there. The 10EE has almost a cult following.
