My new stock

Here is my new Russo rifle stock, just out of the CNC machine. Still needs a little detail and contouring work, but Joel wanted me to see it. I think that it turned out quite well.

I laminated the blank for Joel and he did his magic. I did not have a piece of wood thick enough for the build, so I laminated quarter sawn Bubinga in the center and outsides, while adding two thin strips of figured Anigre to break it up. I wasn't sure that I would like the contrasting color combo, but I think that it will work well together. This was made for a Savage Target Action build. This will be a varmint/long distance rifle that I will shoot prone, off a bipod, so I like the tactical style stock for this style of shooting.

It is a copy of the Manners MCS-T2. I liked it better the McMillan A-5L as the butt hook on the A-5L will not ride the bags as well, if I want to shoot from a bench. Joel will cut the stock to add Sitman adjustable cheek piece system and install SS pillars before I receive it.

I am anxiously awaiting its completion and arrival to my waiting hands so I can get it ready for final finish. For the cost I think it is a no brainer vs what is readily available out there in the aftermarket world for wooden stocks. Plus I get to make my own wood choices!

I was just wondering ..... how long has your stock build taken? I also have joel building the A-5L for me and just curious as to how long your wait has been.

Sometime in late January if I recall correctly. Are you having one made too? I would not have anyone else do this type of work for me than Joel. The results speak for themselves. I expected that it would take a little while, like most everything related to custom firearms. He is actually a little faster than I ever expected.

Yeah I've been waiting since mid feb. the color on mine is brown and black w/ adjustable cheek he's also making pillars and an aluminum plate that bolts the swivel stud hole be better stability off the bench.

I would imagine that it will be ready shortly. With something like this type of work, with one man doing it all, the operation must happen to many items at the same time (inletting all stocks at one stage, forming the basic shapes, etc. Each stage is not done to one item but to a great many. Makes the best use of available time and efforts. A custom rifle build is rarely quick and most take at least 6 months if not longer with the higher regarded smiths out there. To me these are the types of things, that I must realize, will not happen in a short time. I must try my best to leave the person alone that is doing the work for me, as he has many many other peoples stuff that he is also working on too. I have other rifles to shoot, but I do understand the anxiety of wanting something so badly :)
