Just wanted to share with you my newest toy. SB has reintroduced the Heavy 10. I haven't cut much with this machine yet, as I just completed the stand and got the chuck mounted. I think it will be a dandy though. This machine is 3phase with a built in VFD. super smooth and quiet. Enjoy the pic. Lee

41 willeys still being built. I build rifles and dad builds cars. Our machine shop stays pretty busy. Lee

I haven't spent any real time around an original Heavy 10. Tom Haverkamp probably has the nicest one in the country, and if he ever retires ill sure be at that sale. Mine of course is a new production. actually mine is the very first one made. Shiraz at grizzly had specific goals in mind when he took this project one. 3 phase powder with the VFD is a super nice feature. he wanted the 3 phase so he could go with 2 speeds. this lathe will run from 50rpm up to 2200rpm . Like I said the gears are very smooth. I took a look inside the gear box today, and the gears even look very well made. nothing like my old jet that I had first. Not that the jet was bad, as I actually miss it a little. The gears in this machine just look like precision and quality. I really think it will fill the void in my shop. I love my big grizzly for sure, but this machine will allow me to do the smaller stuff a little easier I guess. Maybe I wish this lathe were a touch bigger with a little more weight, but then again I am used to my 3500# 16" grizzly. When the new shop is finished I would imagine I will be pouring some concrete pillars to sit this lathe on instead of the steel frame we made last week. I want as solid as a platform as I can obtain. I am very picky and I do not want to be second guessing anything.
I have some of the parts I need for a flush system, so as soon as I get that built I will chamber a barrel on this lathe. I will report how it does. thanks for the interest. any questions feel free to call me. 217 246 0787

all set up with the first barrel dialed in. Lee

Almost done with the new flush system to.

I chambered my first barrel on the new machine this weekend. I must say I am impressed with the machines performance. Here is a little sample of my work on this new Heavy 10. Enjoy. Lee

Nice looking job Lee. It looks like whoever is making the machine did a great job making everything nice and tight.

yep, ive been using this machine a lot. the only thing I really don't like is the position of the on/off switch. I hold my reamer holder in my left hand and I have to reach across my body and around the chuck to turn the machine on. I don't really care for it. I may try and wire something up, and keep the switch on my right side. Lee
