My new Remm 700 6BR

I am the proud new owner of my first ever gunsmithed gun. Whoever told me to go 6BR thanks ever so much. I have a lot of work to do ahead of me but so far I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT!!!!!! So far it loves the Berger 80gr FB in front of 32.3grs Varget and no pressure signs.

Here it is!

Rem 700 6BR .272 neck
26.5" 10 twist Ted Gaillard Barrel Saskatchewan, Canada
Holland Lug
Ken Farrell 20 MOA base
Burris Sig Zee rings, for that extra elevation)
Bushnell Elite 3200 5-15X
Bill Shehane Varmint Tracker stock and trigger guard
Polished aluminium Butt plate by yours truly
Jewell trigger
Finally the grandmaster of it all: Smithed and finishing by Dennis Sorensen Vancouver Island, Canada

Well to get things up to date on my 6BR there have been a few changes as of March 31, 2006. In regards to optics I picked up a VX III 8.5-25 on consignment at the local gun shop. Could not pass the deal up. Saved easy 400.00 over buying new. I took it to the reange today and it works as I hoped. The rings have also been upgraded to TPS 7075 aluminium rings. They are a very nice product.

Accurate, eh? Looks like a very nice rig.

Send your address to mailbox@6mmbr.com and I'll try to get you some BIB 95s for testing. We're not 100% sure they'll work in all 10-twist bbls. But let me know if there are importation issues.

I hope so!!!!! So far with 80gr Berger FB it is in the low .3's. Hope to improve slightly when I get my new rest built. This is basically the gun that I am going to try and run lots of rounds thru to see if I can learn anything!!!!! The only changes to come will be trigger and possibly optics. Optics are leaning towards Weaver Grand Slam in 6.5-20 as they are about 600.00 less than Leupold VXIII 6.5-20 in Canada.

You might also try VV N135 with your 80-grainers. That powder seems to work real well for many people. In terms of optics, if you can find a used Leupold 6-20, then Premier can boost it. For ultimate accuracy, it's nice to have a bit more than 20x on tap.

I would like to see a lower set of rings on it than you used !!
Burris makes a set of highs now in the Signature Z series, and mediums also.......
What will you use to finish the stock, it looks unfinished in the photo's ?
All in all it sure looks nice........

The rings are mediums. They were okay on Weaver bases. Needed them for clearance. They look high on the Farrel 20 moa mount.

I ended up using Shooters Solutions Arrow wood finish. I can't remeber who told me about it on the board but it is real easy to work with. It is a hand rubbed finish. You cannot mess up with it. The finish you get depends on how much you work with it. I did not work on mine as much as I would have liked to but it is good enough for me. I just wanted to shoot the darn thing.

If I could have I would have liked to have left the stock raw. It was really blonde looking, what I was after. With the finish put on, it darkened it up a bit.

It will look a little different when the new Weaver 36X in silver gets put on it. Should be here in a few weeks. I just have to find a set of stainless or aluminium rings tht will fit the Farrel mount.

Very nice looking rifle, and chambering and twist.
I would also add that you should try the 95 Berger
if it works for you, you'll have great b.c. and still some good speed.Keep us up to date on that beauty.

Another bullet you may want to try that shot phenomenal groups in my ten twist was the Berger 90 grain BT on top of a moderate load of 30.0 grains of Varget CCI BR4. You'll be surprised at the results at 100/200 meters.

I actually have some 90gr Berger BT's and some 95 gr VLD's waiting for try out to 600. They seem to stabilize at 100 so I just need to stretch them out some more.

Just have to wait for this Manitoba weather to warm up a bit more. It was mild all winter and as we hit spring the temp has dropped a bit. We are supposed to be getting above freezing this coming week.

Well I finally got out to the range today after a long winter. What a day to start the season, April fools day. It was not the day that it was yesterday but I will take it. Overcast, temp 6.7deg celcius, winds were SE @ 15 kms/hr. I wanted to try the new scope out and Richard Graves 68gr Wildcat bullets. Richard is from Alberta. Richards bullets are getting to be well known with the long range hunting crowd.

It ended up being a April fool to start. Groups are not the best when the scope moves in the rings. It took 3 groups B4 I realized what was going on. I was getting verticle stringing and things were slowly getting out of focus. It was while I was adjusting the eyepiece that I realized the scope had moved all the way back to the variable power adjusting ring. I removed the rings and scope to inspect. Thank God it never marked the scope up. Re-installed the scope and tightened the rings down slowly but surely. Sure would be nice to have a torque screwdriver to make this task easier.

I ended up using the last group of the 68gr Wildcats to get the scope where I wanted it to print. There went the testing of the 68gr Wildcats. No results here but I did have some with the other bullets which I brought. They were the just in case rounds.

I ended up bringing with me some previously loaded 80gr Berger FB over 32.2, 32.3, and 32.4 grs of Varget and CCI450 primers. Hot damn did they ever shoot. I new they would as they showed potential B4 winter hit. I never had the chrony with me but from the tests in the fall they should have run around the 3150 fps mark. They were seated about .0010 into the lands. The groups measured as follows:

32.2 grs .146
32.3 grs .177
32.4 grs .224

Needless to say I was very happy with these results. I cross my fingers and hope it is not beginners luck or just a big April fool joke!!!!! If the weather holds out tommorrow and the Mrs's slate is not full I will try and get back and try those Wildcats out and another batch of the 80gr Bergers but this time over the chrony.
