My New Prone Rifle

Getting close to having my New NRA Prone Rifle completed. ( Like I really needed another one...)
Purchased a Used Walnut Anshutz 2013 Free rifle stock last winter and decided on putting Kelbly's Stolle Big Bore Panda Action in it. While at the Fullbore Nationals in Raton, Clark Fay had exactly what I wanted on hand. A Panda which had already been adapted with a Anshutz two Stage trigger, a 20MOA Removable Rail milled and lapped to be perfect with the Bore by Dan Werner along with the Iron sight base milled to prefectly line up with the Werner Iron Sights. So with alot of large bills exchanged I handed it to Doan Trevor to have it bedded in the Stock. Once He did his Magic I sent it to a Friend who just so Happed to have the same set up. He sanded and sealed it and took both his and mine to have it Hydro Dipped in a Carbon Fiber patern. I think it turned out Magnificent!!! He Screwed on one of his Barrels for the picture. Mine is th eone without the Buttplate installed.. as its stillin my man Cave.
Ill have two Barrels set up by Spring. a 6BR of Course and a 308 Winchester for Palma.
Im so excited i can hardly contain myself. Twins....

Dang Nice Russ. Considering where/what your doing, you deserve your treats.... Long as you can get it in the safe, fill it up..

Awesome. I really think that that is about the ideal setup for a prone gun. My 1913 smallbore rifle is the most comfortable I've ever shot and I was thinking about trying something like yours a year or so ago. Didn't pan out, but I'd love to revisit the idea again someday!

Most excellent, dude! I think you're gonna like that rig.

I traded Mac Tilton out of an Anschutz 1611 years ago, and since my Robertson H&H prone stocks are so similar in shape & size, the Anschutz makes a great trainer. Now all you gotta do is find an Annie with similar stock, and you're all set up.

Very nice looking. Two thumbs up.
I have been wondering if this was posable with that stock and looks like it is.

Russ T,

Who did your hydrodipping for you? Are you satisfied with the finish? Turn around time?

Thanks.

I cant even tell you. Eric took them both in at the same time, Guessing by the email traffic it was two weeks or less for the turn around. I havent even seen either one yet as im kinda out of town per sa. He did say they turned out perfectly.

I have a 1613 that i started shooting smallbore with way back when. Like Eric Rud I have always thought it was very comfortable. The only stock that is as comfortable for me is the Tube Gun Chassis. Of which i have several.

I might not be able to shoot but... cant hurt to look good...

I cant decide if I want to poish up the Aluminum on the Cheek Peice adjustments... Leave alone or black it out? I wont be doing any polishing on the action!! I did that to my Stiller Predator and the tang creates a glare when the sun is comming around about 8:00 position that shines right in my face... I have to take a Sharpie and black it out. That part is Shinny enough. The Anshutz adjusting harware is quite dull however.

What do you guys think?
1. Leave it alone
2. Polish it
3. Black it out

Eric said on his rifle he is thinking of going the black out direction with maybee even a Melonited barrel or Cerecote. I dont think I want to do that.. I like some contrast.

So I have about 500 rounds on her now. Took a chance and went to a couple big matches with it and did not do a load work up before i went as I just did not have time. The rifle has been shooting lights out with the same load as my other 6BR rifle in a tube gun.
Heading to the Nationals for Mid Range Prone in a few days so I wanted to try some of the hybrids. That means a small load work up. All I have to say is WOW!!!! Not only does it look pretty is flat out shoots.
It shot a .222 group at 100yds with my old 105VLD load ( see picture). Once I got the seating depth right on the Hybrids it shot a 5 shot group of 1.6" at 600 yards this morning in absalute perfect conditions. This may not be a big deal for some of ya but for a guy who really is not all that good at shooting off a bench I thought that was awsome. Even better i had a witness to it all. :Looking forward to Camp Perry now.

What did you find for seating depth with the hybrids? I also have an Anschutz 6BR that shoots great. I noticed a significant difference with vertical when the bullet tips were reamed and repointed. Are your bullets modified?

Russ:

I shot about 300 Nosler 107s this spring in my stoller 6BR and wasnt sure they shot so well. I was using N-140. Switched to 105 Hybrids and it came alive. Jumping about .025 and it shoots pretty darn well. Had 3 15X matches at Lacrosse this spring shooting irons all day.

You will be hard at Midrange with that rig, good luck!
