My new calling rig 6BR

Stiller Predator action,repeating)

24" Lilja #4 12 twist / 6BR

Conquest 3.5x10x44

Also have another barrel chambered for 6.5x47 Lapua Improved

Thinking about doing a 20 VarTarg barrel too.

Built by Neil Jones in Saegertown Pa.

I did M.Bryant conversion to magazine and it feeds great.,6BR)

Been shooting 75gr Vmax with Varget looks very promising, sub MOA, need some better weather to do any serious load development.

Scott,

I liked your rifle enough that I featured it in today's Daily Bulletin. Tell us more about the stock. And maybe you can explain to folks about the magazine conversion.

What did the Conquest cost? Great choice in optics, but I know the price has been going up.

What's the all-up weight on the rifle, and what's the twist rate on the 6.5x47 barrel?

I also recommend you try the 80gr Berger Varmint bullet. It was quite a bit more accurate in my rifle than the V-Max, producing some groups in the high 1s!

Moderator,

Overall weight of this rifle w/scope is around 8.5 lbs., not what I would call ultra light, but very comfortable to carry. I don't like to use anything lighter than a #4 contour barrel, a rifle with a little more "heft".

I bought the CDL Rem 700 stock from Stocky's.com,liquidation sale) for $130.00. Neil installed pillars and bedded action, opened barrel channel up. A composite stock would be lighter, but I like the feel of wood and stability of laminates.

All metal work was Cerama-coated for a durable matte finish, baked on ceramic treatment)

Maybe you could attach a link to Mike Bryant's article describing magazine conversion here too. I used that to do mine.

The 6.5x47 Lapua Imp. barrel is 24" long with a 1-8" twist.
I did the improved version because I already had a set of custom dies built by Neil Jones for my 6x47 Imp.. All I need to do is install new,6.5mm) bushings, and good to go. Dave Kiff designed my reamer with this in mind.

I have not shot 6.5 yet because I am hunting for yotes, and will be waiting for better weather to do load development. focusing on the 120gr-130gr projectiles.,deer not coyotes)

Ordered a .378 bolt for my Predator a couple of months ago, hopefully I can do the 20 Vartarg this spring.,Maybe go a little crazy and get another bolt with Mag face to do a 300 wsm too)

Then I'd have all my bases covered HA HA.

I am a guide for Ron Dube in Cody, Wy. for Yellowstone Wilderness Elk, so I am able to participate in Ziess's outfitter-guide program, allowing me to use these premium optics at cost. I would be using this line of optics anyway, great products worth the price.

I think a switch barrel rig is a great way to go for hunting because gun feels the "same" no matter what cartridge you happen to be using. The benefits of being a "one gun shooter", with flexibility of full spectrum cartridge use.,30gr to 200gr bullets)
A custom rifle with 4 switch barrels, would be a lot less expensive than 4 complete rifles too.

Fun project !

I really enjoy this website! Lots and lots of detailed information, and very knowledgeable membership. Super group. I have learned a great deal here.

Thanks!

Scott,

Nice report. I'll append that to the Bulletin Item.

I agree with you on the utility of switch barrels...

For those interested, here is the link to the article in which Mike Bryant explains how to modify a magazine to work with the 6mm BR.
