This is a culmination of about 5 years work. I found a new unused 1917 Remington Enfield receiver. John Farner in New Mexico did the 3 POS safety as nobody was producing them at the time. Ed LaPour was redesigning his. Nick Hughes in Oklahoma did the beautiful scope bases that hid the screw holes. He surfaced ground the OD of the receiver, made the custom bolt release and bolt handle. Duane Wiebe, Washington State, supplied the custom cartridge follower, extended tangs, and bottom metal. James Anderson, South Dakota, did the rest of the work.

James did the quarter rib, barrel recoil lug, front sight, welded and shaped the extended tangs, and just a lot of little work. He even set up his mill to engrave and stipple the rear sight.

James did the stock work except the checkering. I wanted flat top checkering like the old English rifles. Only one person that I could find in the USA to do it. He had 100 hours in the checkering it. He will not allow me to disclose his name as he does not checker other people's stock work.

Tommy Kaye of Yoakum, Texas did the checkering. Jay Lynn Gore worked with him in the saddle making business in years gone buy.

It has a Shilen barrel and an unknown custom trigger.
I hope to have it in my hands in a few weeks. Photos are going to Tom Turpin to put in the 2015 Gun Digest. I sure hope my friends here like it.

That is the epitome of a custom rifle and a great example of true craftsmanship! Very nice......

Well this old Okie really likes nice rifles. I do hunt or shoot all of them. The thing I like is the friendship that I have made with the various craftsmen. I did not do anything on this rifle. I will do all the work on my Titanium Pierce receiver rifle later this year. My mini mauser in 220Beggs is having the last coats of finish on the wood being applied at this time. I also have a custom 40X rimfire that is ready for stockwork. After these I believe I will quit.
Thanks very much buddies as your opinions means alot to me.

Unbelievable,impressive isnt the word.The work is flawless.You must post how this baby shoots Butch. Once again your taste's are enjoyed by all and it should be documented on the daily bulletin with more in depth picture's suitable for framing.

Butch;

You certainly know how to get things done by the right people. I can't add to what has been said above. I do have a question though.

If you would have had access to an FN made in Belgium action that was purchased new and used only as a "deer" rifle, with perhaps 200 rnds. worked through it over a 20 year span, would you have considered building what you did with that action ?

Thanks in advance,
Joe

No I wouldn't. The 1917 Enfield is capable of handling cartridges as large as a 600 Overkill. The receiver that I used had never been used. I have various mausers made in big cartridges and they work well, but take a good amount of cutting to make them suitable. The FNs are great receivers, but I think for the smaller cartridges.
