My first rifle build is fully underway. I placed my order with Krieger today for the barrel and they will also be fitting it to my action for me. The specs of the rifle are going to be as follows:
remington 700 action
28" Krieger barrel #17 heavy varmint contour
4 groove 1:8" twist
chambered in 6.5x47 Lapua
i will eventually be putting a trigger in it and it will either be a jewell or timney calvin elite
i don't know if you guys have seen the new magpul hunter 700 stock but that is what i will be using. it is scheduled to ship to retailers in april so i will have it in plenty of time before my barrel is complete. i'll also be running magpul's detachable mag system which uses the AI mag pattern. i haven't decided on a color yet. it will be offered in black, OD green, earth, stealth gray. i considered getting it dipped in kryptek neptune pattern as well.
as for optics, i'd like to be able to get a nightforce but that is not nearly in the budget. i plan to go with a Vortex Viper HS-T 6-24x50 in MOA with a 20 moa base. i have several vortex products and they are a great combination of quality, features, affordability, and can't forget to mention their warranty
i'll be handloading for this rifle as well and i'd like to run either the 130 or 140 berger VLD's. since krieger is chambering the rifle for me it will be at SAAMI specs, any thoughts on whether it will handle the VLDs very well or will i end up needing to ream the throat out some more? i'd like to eventually try the new nosler 142 gr accubond LR as well with their listed .719 BC, but they seem very hard to get at the moment and i'd also like to see some reviews on them first
