My Dream Rifle

Just to shake things up a little and have some fun while dreaming of spring bear hunting I would like to share my thoughts on my idea of "The Ultimate Rifle" for North America. Here goes:
Short action, repeater, magnum bolt face, switch barrel, 6.5 Rem Mag 24" barrel, and 350 Rem Mag 20" barrel, McMillan Edge stock, 6×20×50 and 1.5×5×20 VXIII's.
I might not ever get around to getting one built, but that would make one fine rig. Or even a 25-06 and 338-06...

Come on guys, what would you build or have built for everything from couse deer to brown bear?

I'm a simple man I guess. Give me a 1:10 5R 24" 300 Win Mag with a 2.5-10 NXS w/ NPR2 or 15x or 22x with NPR1. Mild 155s to bunker buster 230s.

The sad thing is I have those setups... :-[ Give me 5 minutes and I'll dream up a way to spend all the money my wife save's for me... and the tax returns ;D

Because of the liberal "primitive weapons" laws down here for deer I've been kicking around the idea of customizing a gun on a model 1885 action. No idea which version or which caliber but most of the hunting I do is with single shots anyway so I'm looking at it as a one-gun-do-it-all project.

If limited to one gun : Ruger 77 Safari in 375 H&H shooting the 250 grain TTSX. 30-06 trajectory with enough oomph to blow down Palin's house ;D

Swap the 2 leupolds out for a 2.5x25 March

My dream rifle is a 270 Winchester, 24" Douglas Supreme Sporter Barrel, Mauser Control Feed Action, McMillian sporter stock. Yes, the old 270 - in my opinon one of the all time greats and hard to beat as an all around rifle - Jack O'Connor kill just about everything with it in North America (except brown bears.) I'd also be happy with a 30-06 custom also.

Obviously the 270 is not adequate for brown bear. I don't ever intend to hunt them but if I did I'd opt for a 338 Winchester Magnum.
