My definition of a crawl away.

Photo #1 he was standing at his dens entrance when he got hit with a 17 WSM 20 grain Hornady v-max, he crawled back in his hole .
Photo #2 he was 6 feet from his den when he got hit he turned and crawled away but that's as far as he got.
Photo #3 he was standing on the blood stained board when he got hit he crawled away and rolled over on his back, I hate when they crawl away. Picture #4 he got hit and crawled away about 10 feet, his blood trail was easy to follow.

Me and my dad always had a friendly bet on who got the most ground hogs in a days hunt. One catch… you had to be able to pick him up. Which means you reached into his hole and pulled him out or you got a zero for that one if he disappeared too deep.
Many a times I was in up to my shoulder to pull one out that just had enough in him to get started down the hole. If you hunt enough, eventually you’ll get a crawler or two. LOL

I think I can, i think I can, I think I can....(the little engine that could) For those of you that have grandkids, a great read-a-loud book, but appropriate here

Years ago I wrote an article for Varmint Hunter. It was called ..."Garden Hose For the 500 Yard Club".

Friend had a "crawl away" at over 500 yards. Two of us watched it. We knew it was hit but to get into the 500 Yard Club you needed to see. At a local restaurant we were talking and the waitress gave me an idea. They had a cut-off piece of garden hose laying beside the restaurant and we had some treble hooks. Found string and tied treble hooks to an end of that garden hose.

Back to the field, snaked the hose in to the hole and out comes a snagged and dead groundhog. We certified his kill to get into the club.

The Amish farmer suggested that where I was shooting, I didn't bother the gh could be seen at the end of a four foot stovepipe apparently drt, but in your situation I hear you.
