My dad and his wild hogs

I swear I love my old man but sometime I wonder about him lol. His latest adventure has been training wild hog on the property to be bush movers lol. I introduced him to the idea of permaculture a while ago and I guess the part about possibly using pigs and chicken to till up soil really hit home. So what he's been doing is throwing sour corn every where he wants cleaned out but the bush hog and tractor can't get to. And sure enough within a day or two it looks like a dang nuke went off ! Evey but of under brush gone. Gotten to the point they this sounder will follow the tractor sometimes and the bigger sows will hang out with the cows some times . O and I'm not allowed to mess with the small ones for a while, Every big trophy size boar is fair game but pops will probably throttle me if I scare off all the free day labor lol !

I found this both interesting and amusing. I hope he doesn't plan to plant anything there as those hogs will revisit those cleared spots often.

Nah it's just tickets we need gone and can't get int here with machinery

From some one that has had hog problems… I would try to eliminate them as soon as possible…
It's a weird deal we have going with these hogs. Most of our property I'm composed of some really thick timer mixed in with briars swampy land and pasture. No agricultural any thing pat beef cattle. They generally stay in that thick stuff where we really don't care about them and we do kill a bunch but just due to how where set up their not really much of a problem past the large boars but I'm after them guys as soon as I see them on the camera. If we had crops or something like that yeah they would be problem but with the way we hunt them along with surrounding property owners doing the same, well their just kind there .
Will say though we did have some problems last year with some tearing up yards but NV and a .22lr too care of that.
Not to mention with the way food costs are going alot of people have been doing similar kinda like a free range meat type of thing lol

I’ve always liked people who try different things, I get a kick out of it. I like what your Dad is doing and I think using the pigs is genius in some ways in other ways not so much. I can’t help but wonder if the surrounding properties don’t want wild hogs, they might not be too happy about the arrangement. Wild pigs are a pain in the butt to get rid of, I have no idea how much property or how many pigs your talking about but hopefully it’s a small amount of pigs so you can eradicate them when and if you feel the need.

I HATE hogs. Love to eat them.....except the boars. They will eventually run off every other game animal around except squirrels.

Just don't let them get out of hand or you will never get them back under control.

It sounds like the hogs were already there and he just started feeding them in certain areas where he wants them to root around.

I agree completely. I'd be looking at them as meat on the hoof, and I'd be frequently practicing my cooking techniques. I've rarely found any critter that runs, flies, hops, slithers, swims, or crawls that I couldn't make a tasty meal out of. Looking at that picture, I'm jealous. I don't live in pig country. jd
