My 284 win by Straight Shot Gunsmithing

Those targets look much better , Ok now take the best 2 loads an shoot them further out 3 shots each then post those pics and you will be able to see whats really going on an how to tune your load a little better.

H4831sc is a great powder in the 284 that you should try, 98% of f-classers use it in the 284 because it flat out works great.

Hi Jim, thanks for your input, i have 16lbs of H4350 that i was really hoping to use in this gun so i am going to try other powders as a last ditch effort. BTW i really like the way your mini magnum reduces the recoil on this gun, from the bench it is a good shove but prone i can see my target the entire time after i break the trigger.

Sorry I didn't get back to you. I believe were around .015 give or take off the lands. We are both using WW brass and I neck turn it all to "Clean" it up other than that we just shoot it.

Mine started to go south on accuracy and I found out that my neck tension was like .015!! I couldn't even pull the damn bullets with a collet puller. I annieled the cases and that made all the difference in the world. I now have around .003 neck tension.

Riley, great looking stick, and those targets are just fine. You'll find your groove sooner then later, and she will be shooting bug holes. Gotta love that new gun feeling when you first bring it home!
Mine is shooting awesome, better then expected at this point, man this Brux barrel shoots! Congrats on bringing home the new toy!

Hey 7stw, thanks! I am going to see if i can shoot it at 300 yards either tomorrow or thursday and make a decision on a load. I am having a Brux twisted on a remmy 700 LA in 30/375 S.I. (a 375 ruger variant, about 50-100 fps more than the 300 win) and i was finally able to find some of the nosler 210 grain ALR to shoot out of it once it is ready. I am waiting for the smithing to get finished (another month or so) and for the custom dies from whidden to get here (another month and a half). I am VERY excited for the above build to be finished, it will be my Dads 1k elk hammer for when my 284 runs out of steam. :) My benchsource annealer should be here either tomorrow or thursday so i will probably give these cases a spin. I will keep you guys updated.

Guys, when i am shooting at 300 yards, do you suggest shooting my three shots, then letting the barrel cool? Or shoot one, wait for barrel to cool, shoot one wait for barrel to cool, .ect? Also, round robin?

Hi guys shot at 300 yards today, absolutly no wind and no mirage. I am going to a shoot 400 miles away on June 15 and need to load up some ammo, i will be shooting out to 1000 yards, what load do you guys suggest i use? Load info written on target, all have the same powder charge.

NOTE: the group with the 2 shots in one hole were shots #3,4, and 5 from a warm bore that had only powder fouling removed followed by a wet patch of kroil, #3 was upper right, #4 was low left, and #5 was up in the upper right in the same hole as shot #3.

With Jim's brake, just a hair more than a 7 lb 22-20 shooting 50 grain bullets. I havnt shot more than 20 rounds per session (yet, will be this weekend) and i dont have any ill effects.

You better get get that thing dialed in ;)

Haha hey Rhian, i went shooting again tonight and have it right at 2" at 300 yards. That will have to do for the shoot. I might just load up like 30 of the ones that shot best today and also load up some more adjusting powder charge and test those at Townsend. Getting ready and i am really excited!
