Was just charging a few cases using my MXX123 and was having trouble with zero and a wandering weight after the balance symbol went on and noticed that my cordless drill was sitting about 12" from the scale. I moved the drill, extra battery, and some batteries for mis. things completely away from the scale and it setteled right down. I'm wondering if the magnetic field has had anything to do with some of these problems others have been having.

I imagine it very well may... in talking w/ the engineer that designed these scales, I got the distinct impression that one of the areas in which corners were cut to make the price point that they sell at, was EM shielding. I know my cell phone can't be w/i 10-12 feet, and I'm wondering if the relative proximity of my electrical main panel and fluorescent lights may have something to do with the problem as well. The engineer didn't seem to think so at the time, but I'm getting rather frustrated,not much hair left to pull out) and may move it elsewhere and give it a go... all of the shop/garage area has fluorescent lighting so I may have to hunt a bit to find an area to test it in.

I'm also considering upgrading my UPS that it is plugged into... it's a battery back-up UPS, but not a filtering one i.e. unless the voltage fails as in brown or black out, it still passes unregulated line voltage, w/ all the crappy harmonics from lots of fluorescent lighting, computers, and every damn thing else w/ a switching power supply...

Still frustrating to have to upgrade this, that, and something else to make a $300 scale behave properly.

Option B is just sell the damn thing and use my Redding #2 balance beam scale,which I am doing for the moment, at least).

Interesting. I will have to watch those factors. I had my cell in my pocket the whole time. Whoops. I have florescent lights in the converted 8ft. closet in my office that is my reloading area. My computer is about 14 ft. away. This the first time it has really gone haywire. I can tell if it comes back to zero when I lift the powder pan off because it weighs 110.18 gr. If it does not, I dump that charge back in the measure, replace the pan and zero. A poster named Silverfox has purchased all the voltage cleaning equipment and I believe has had no problems. I also believe he leaves his on 24 -7. I turn mine on the night before I want to use it, and it usually seems real stable. I do about 10 weight checks with my weight set for repeatability before weighing powder. I wondered about the florescent lights and did turn them off and use an incandescent light to see if there was a difference for about 1 hour when I first received it and could see no repeatable difference. I believe the error factor is + or - .02 gr. and mine seems to stay within those parameters. .02 = one piece of h4895. It still seems faster than my balance beam and is much easier to read. I'd been dreading the additional cost of adding some sort of power conditioning equipment to the equation... but after looking at APC's website and talking to one of their reps on the phone, it appears as though one of these units: APC Line-R should fit the bill nicely; automatic voltage regulation, EM and RF filtering, etc., for about $40-50 from CDW. I need to update my billing info w/ them as I've moved since I last ordered from them, but I think I'll order one and see if it helps.

I really recommend that you go with a Tripp-Lite instead of an APC. The Tripp-Lites have always been much better at line conditioning--nice square waveforms and good noise suppression.

I just bought the LC 1200 from Provantage for around $100 total. 1200 watts is more than I needed, but I wanted the 80 DB of noise suppression.

After a year with the MXX-123 I can honestly say I haven't encountered any problems. My reloading room is below ground level, concrete floor, with four foot fluorescent directly above the reloading bench. I,m running my MXX-123 through a standard APC surge suppressor, nothing fancy.
As far as operation goes occasionally I'll need to re-zero, not that big of a deal, just a push of a button. One thing for sure the MXX-123 has shown me how terrible I am at throwing consistent charges of Varget from my Harrells Benchrest Powder Measure. Occasionally I'm off almost a full grain! Powders like H322 or Benchmark are much better, but still can be off a tenth or two. I now weigh everything, and my groups and scores have improved because of it. Especially at 500 meters.

Here are some of my thoughts as to why I'm not experiencing some of the problems others are. Not saying I'm right just thoughts.
Being below ground on a concrete floor with a massive reloading bench that dosen't move, the possibility of vibration is probably less. Air currents are less also since the room is almost dead air. Temperature and humidity are controlled at 72 degrees and 51% humidity. Does that make a difference? Got me, but it can't hurt. The flourescent lights don't seem to make a difference, at least not in my setup. I do avoid running other electrical items while reloading, such as my Lyman Turbo Tumbler which could I guess potentially have an effect.

All in all, I'm totally satisfied with the MXX-123.

It's only $170 and seems to measure to .02 Gn & it runs on batteries or supplied AC adaptor. USA lifetime warranty.

What am I missing here?

Interesting that they started carrying these and dumped the Tanita brand scales... the Tanita 1210-50 & 1210-100 had favorable reviews on Benchrest Central; the primary complaint there seemed to center around an auto power-off feature that was not user configurable.

Might be worth looking into for loading @ the range. The big question is going to be how well they take being trickled into...
