Muzzle threading a lever action?

Customer wants to send me a Henry All-Weather to have the muzzle threaded for a suppressor (along with a Montana).
My reply was along the lines of "hmm...gotta check on that".

Anyone know what's involved in pulling the barrel from that receiver? Sure ain't going through the headstock otherwise.

Not a gunsmith, but I did have my 1895 45-70 threaded. Not totally sure if they had to pull the barrel out of the receiver or not, but I do know you will have to move the sight back and shorten the Mag tube and recut the dove tail for the tube if its not a clamp on style. Either way, it cost me more then I paid for the rifle to have the barrel threaded. Dont get me wrong, I glad i did it, but wow. It is the reason I have not had the 336 threaded yet.

You might check with Chad Dixon at LRI. I saw a video of him threading the muzzle of a Thompson Center in his 5 axis machining center.

My son threaded a Marlin in 45-70. He had to remove it from the receiver.
Yep, I'm sure of that.
They got room on the skinny end for threading? Doesn't the magazine come a long way forward?
Don't know- that's what I've got to find out. Looks like there's enough clearance for a tenon above, if not could probably shorten the magazine tube a tiny bit without affecting function. I know the front sight will need to be moved back, but I'm trying to figure out what type of tooling I'd need to make to hold the receiver, assuming it's a typical thread-in. Guess I'll try to get in touch with Henry next week.

I did one a few weeks ago, barrel threaded in like a normal bolt action receiver. The customer wanted the barrel cut to 16.5" and the mag tube shortened as well. It was a pretty straight forward project.

Thanks. What did you use for a receiver wrench to spin it off?
All I can come up with is using a couple pieces of heavy aluminum flat stock bolted together sandwiching the receiver. Obviously concerned about twisting it if I do this incorrectly...

A very large Crescent type wrench will work on a flat sided lever action. Use masking tape and some brass strips to protect the finish. A regular barrel vise, or a large bench vise will hold the barrel with a good fitting
barrel bushing, with Rosin should work. If your barrel is long enough, and your lathe is short enough, you may be able to leave the receiver on, and put the barrel thru the headstock.

We threaded a Henry 45/70 fo a brake and removed the barrel.
with the bolt open the barre will unscrew. Barrel was really tight.

I used a Brownell's wrench for a Mauser action and fairly thick soft brass shims on the action flats, just about any action wrench with a flat side that the action fits between the bolts should work. I clamped everything up tight and gave the wrench a pretty good whack with a 3 pound brass hammer. The barrel was pretty tight as MCLARK said of the .45/70.

Just as a side note, instead of powdered rosin I use Confectioner's (powdered) sugar, I think it works just as well, if not better, is easier to clean up and much less expensive.
