Muzzle brake thread question

Hi, guys looking to thread a 7mm rem mag for a break. Barrel measure .660 what size and pitch do you recommend?

Looking to have a tactical look so any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Nick

9/16x32 would be my suggestion.

For a tactical look take a look at the Badger Ordnance Micro FTE Get the one for the 223 and bore it out .020 to .030 over groove diameter. It may already be sized OK for bullet clearance. They are threaded 1/2-28 which is fine for .284 cal.

I would also go 9/16-32. Harrell's makes a four port tactical style brake with that thread size.

I like the biggest thread you can fit to minimize flaring of the muzzle. I have put a 5/8-24 brake on a barrel of that diameter. Didn't get any feedback from the customer but I think it worked out fine.

I would choose the thread that allows for the least disturbance to the muzzle, and gives you enough metal to retain the brake and keep it aligned.
The brakes finish bore for a 7mmcaliber should be .308".the barrel diameter of the existing barrel is .660".
The starting major diameter for 5/8 x 24 threads is .625".
The starting major diameter for 9/16 x 32 is .5625".
The starting major diameter for 7/16 x 32 is .4375".
The starting major diameter for 1/2 x 28 is .500".

Is the brake going to be turned the OD of the barrel?. If so it will most likely taper at approx .012" per inch.
Just some figures for thought.

I wanted to use a standard 5/8x24 but was concerned with the smaller shoulder. Is that enough shoulder? I would like to lean towards the least amount of metal disturbance.

It makes it harder to time the muzzle brake but the brake fit against the shoulder isn't critical. However, to eliminate this concern you can use an APA Bastard or similar that has a lock nut.

For a muzzle diameter of .705", what thread size muzzle brake will leave the most metal at the muzzle of the barrel?

Muzzle brakes is very critical to accuracy they can and do harm to accuracy . Its very critical to have them straight Down the bore . Larry
