Muzzle Brake on a .223

I used them on my p. dog rifles for years, recoil is enough on a std Rem varmint to not give you a very clear picture of the EXACT bullet impact which you need to see. There is a strain of really pulling a rifle into your shoulder and gripping it trying to maintain sight picture.

Now, I started shooting p. dogs in 1979 when dog towns were 30 miles long and as many wide. My hunting partners and I tried every thing we could imagine including making a fixture were we could attach a Diver's weight and weighted stocks.

We used 6.5x20 leupolds as soon as they came out, then 6-24 Burris signatures, then 8-32 burris, etc. You can't depend on a spotter as they blink or not looking at the dog you are shooting at, so the brake allows you to spot for yourself. Also, as you are getting dialed on for windage and elevation, seeing the exact bullet impact allows you to fine tune your target knobs for all the dogs in that general facinity. By picking a specific aim point and adjusting, you can place shoot and eliminate a lot of crawlers.

This is just my opinion based on our shooting style.

I have a ban compliant AR15 with a simple muzzle brake and it will definitely clear the benches on each side of you.

You need hearing protection, but if shooting that much you should be using it anyhow. Matt
I put brake on all my guns. My ears turn off with noise. The real reason the brakes I use has a tuner. That alone gives me a 50 percent reduction in my group size Larry

One could also use this for compensating on muzzle rise for something like 3-gun.

I put a break on a Short barreled Ruger 223 for my 6 year old son. It has little to no recoil now but you had better put ear plugs in! The barrel is only 16" .
