Must Have's for a F-Class Match

Don't forget to make sure that no stray 9's found there way into your bucket of X's.

I wonder if Mark realizes that our Coach is requiring us to wear costumes at every team match from now on?

I have some suggestions for "suitable" costumes if you're interested...

i will be shooting f-class open or do the local matches at Sac Valley which run anywhere from 200-600 yard relays, 3x600, 8,9,1K relays, 1K and so on and so forth. We just shoot with the highppower and other guys as well as just get put into different classifications when registering for the match. although, I might try my hand at F T/R, but I dont have a 308 rig for that shooting....yet.

I have seen a scope go down, trigger go down, and even a near welded case head stuck in the bolt of a surgeon action. although i hope none of this happens, i would like to prepare for the worst.

i see guys with those dollies and what looks like 40 pounds of gear :) and I cant help but think what they got in there. ;)

Sac Valley, huh...might not be a bad idea to bring along a front bumper winch; just in case your vehicle strays too far off-path and gets stuck between the 500 and 600 yard lines after a rain!

Oh yes...bring along a "load spreader" to put under your F-Open front rest, especially at the 1000 yard line, otherwise the rest will just wallow around in the chat. And, double ear plugs are a plus when shooting under the 1000-yard line overhead cover, terribly loud, even the voices. Unless you live close to the range, you might work out a communication with Jim O'Connell in regard to the weather. We generally used the terms, "one zipper", "two zipper, or "three zipper" weather...referring to the number of zippers one might have to go thru to take a piss. Bring along a good towel to wipe the cold, cold water off the metal hand rails of the target carriers on those cold mornings, too.

Dan

P.S. I found the large solid red "range flag" situated on the point to the left just above the 600 yard line to be the most reliable "wind flag" in the litter for 1000 yard shooting!! What a range and how I miss it, but it has become a "range too far", even for me.

Yes, & Cigars. ;) Oh, and a costume if the dates are right…

Also add band-aids to give to your buddies when their scope tags them.

... and a bucket of X's. ;)

It seems like I remember someone sacrificing a rubber chicken as well.

I seemed to be the guy that forgets everything last year..

Checklist:
Eye protection
Ear protection
Shooting Mat
Ammo (COF + 5 shots per relay)
Front rest / Bipod
Rear bag (right one for the rifle used)
Rifle
Bolt for rifle
Mirage shield
Chamber flag (and a spare)
Towel
Clipboard
Pens
Spotting Scope
Spotting Scope stand
Chair
Cart to carry all this stuff around in
Food
Water
Allen keys and Torx keys

I keep a cleaning rod that fits down the top of my scope stand. A can of compressed air as well. Twice I have had to loan my cleaning rod in a match to someone who had a missfire and bullet stayed in the throat

Wow! Sounds like more fun than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. A little bit more anyway

Jim,
FYI
They have shoot off's in the FC Worlds. In the first one I had a 66 shot shoot off. All 'V's. I took a 125 rounds to the line and thought Jim Murphy was going to have to go back to the van and get more for me. The targets are a bit smaller now thank god.

What Larry stated about attitude is correct. I might add to that >> You need REAL CONFIDENCE in your rifle / load you are using. I spend inordinate amounts of time getting my loads as perfect as possible. Constantly shooting / checking them out at 600 / 1000 yards til "I know in my knower" that if I do my part, the rifle IS going to do it's. That breeds confidence! Shooting and "hoping" is NOT a confidence builder!

I know we have our eye on equipment but the statement above has significant weight. I asked Robert Bock a question at the 2011Fclass natls right after he alone cleaned the 600 yrd portion and was lucky enough to be squaded with him the next day. The question was... ( WHAT DO YOU FEEL IS MOST IMPORTANT) and after he thought about it he answered (A GOOD LOAD) I would take this serious if you want to win any matches.
