I am in the habit of using the Hornady modified case to measure distance to the lands. Unfortunately, Hornady doesn’t make one of these for 7-6.5 PRCW, so I decided to make my own. I started with a 6.5 PRC modified case. Next, I used a 7mm neck sizing die with expander ball to open the neck up to .282. Then I ordered a collection of inexpensive pin gauges from MSC in .285, .286, .287. When they arrived, I pressed the .285 gauge through the neck and drove it back out with a wooden dowel. There was enough springback that a Berger 180 wouldn’t slide easily down the neck, so pressed the .286 gauge into the neck. Presto – perfect channel for guiding a .284 bullet in and out.
